About the local hosting organizationKoh Libong is a small island in Andaman sea, South Thailand, which has a good environment enough (shallow water and different kinds of sea grass) to welcome dugongs (sea cows). The fishermen Muslim population (4 villages) is still attached to its traditional values while facing the spread of consumption and the development of tourism which brings of course some problems. For the first cooperation with DaLaa, we will join the Dugong preservation group to organize activities linked to environment, agriculture and social life of of the island. International volunteers will join a group of 9 volunteers from Oman who are joining this workcamp as a group.
About the volunteer work joining activities with the Volunteers for Dugong Preservation Group joining activities with the homegrown agricultural group (local community market of Libong Island) organizing English language camp Improving dugong viewpoints and making campaign signs regarding dugong spots Staying with a host family in order to embed oneself in local Thai culture and learn the lifestyle of community members
Local accommodationVolunteers will stay with a local host family. The living condition is very simple. Volunteers cook by themselves and eat with the family. Volunteers can take turn in daily tasks. As mentioned that it’s a Muslim village, so there will be no pork used in cooking.
About the project locationYou will be living in the middle of the village. On this island, there are only small roads and very few cars, only motorcycles. You can reach the sea side easily by walk. You are given 1 or 2 free day(s) during these 2 weeks and plenty of free time in the evening.
