About the local hosting organizationREGAINING INDEPENDENCE IN AN ASSISTED LIVING ENVIRONMENT Our partner association was established through the initiative of a group of friends who decided to create places of shared living which allow the disabled individual to live with friends and family. These informal settings include meals prepared and shared together, social activities and celebrations (cultural, recreational and sporting...) In 2010, the first shared home was opened in Vanves, a town just outside Paris. After the success of the first shared home, groups of 'companions' in association with our partner established homes in ten other cities in France. Our partner organisation helps to structure these projects, giving the groups technical and financial support in order to create their own shared homes. Our partner association shared Home is upheld as a societal project based on the 'art of shared living' between both disabled and able-bodied individuals. It is a testimony to the idea that trust and community arise when people come together in a time of need.
