About the local hosting organizationThe Pro Loco Association aims to be a driving force for the promotion and enhancement of the local history, culture and tradition of Mirabella village. We believe we're custodians of territorial identity, and in that sense we aim to hand out to future generations the heritage, memory promoting events with both culture and gastronomy. Mirabella Imbaccari is a village of 5,400 inhabitants in the center of Sicily, close to 2 major cities rich in art and history (Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina 18 km and 10 km). The town was founded in 1610 and is characterized by an agricultural economy and a long history of emigration; important center of South Italy for the bobbin lace.
About the volunteer workThe purpose of the project is to create a playful context and opportunity with workshops for local kids aged between 9 and 13 years, in which the exclusive use of the English language can bring to learning it in most enjoyable way. The activities take place in the play area of the municipality (ludoteca). The workcamp will lead to a process of social integration also with the involvement of young local people, member of the juvenile group of the parish that organize activities for kids every summer. The camp will also create awareness to the youth of Mirabella on international voluntary projects and on intercultural dialogue. The volunteers will work 6 hours a day.
Local accommodationVolunteers will share an apartment with all facilities.
About the project locationThe camp will take place in Mirabella Imbaccari village in center Sicily.
RequirementsPrevious experience of animation with children is most welcome.
Extra info about the projectWe invite participants to bring with them some personal items for the presentation of their culture during the camp (traditional clothes, music CDs, recipes, etc..).
