About the volunteer workEven if the 1.5 degree proposal was already decided at the Climate Conference in Paris, climate change is continuing at an ever-increasing rate. The Rhine lignite mining district, Europe’s largest source of CO2, contributes greatly to this process. With a quick and strong reduction in our CO2 output, there is still chance to reach our 1.5 degree proposal and thereby reduce our damage to the climate for our current and future generations. This won’t happen without some slight pressure. For this, we need you! There are many camps organized to take place in the Rhine area this year, from the 18th to the 29th August, where thousands of people will stand up for climate protection. The camp for [future] is one of these camps in which young people, who want to campaign for the climate and a sustainable world, can become active. With diverse educational and artistic events, the camp gives its participants the opportunity to learn about climate protection, global justice, education and other topics about the future, to meet with likeminded people and also to network. With a colourful protest, loud demonstrations, convincing arguments and a good spirit, we are campaigning for climate protection and a sustainable world. At the work & study camp, which is taking place directly next to the lignite mine, you will firstly help to set up the camp. This will involve setting up common compost toilets, solar-powered showers, as well as other infrastructure within the camp. During the camp for [future] from 18th to the 29th August, with around 400 other participants you can discuss the causes and consequences of climate change and the mines themselves. You will meet people, who have lost everything because of the mine, but you will also get to know exciting projects and alternatives. During the camp, for example, you will be able to try out a more sustainable lifestyle by eating an exclusively vegan diet. More information about the camp for [future] can be found at www.campforfuture.de. At the end of the camp, you will be taking down the tents, compost toilets and solar-panels and help to pack them away.
Local accommodationYou will be staying in tents, with sleeping bags and thermal mats. There is VEGAN food on this project. During the camp, the will be a cooking committee responsible for feeding the team. Participants will take turns helping this committee.
