About the local hosting organizationHillview Primary School is located in Buikwe district east of Kampala. The main activity among the community around is fishing. The project was started by one of the concern community member for children of fishermen to also benefit in the prevailing free education. Unfortunately, government has not taken on the project but the school population is growing at a faster rate. The teacher pupil ratio is 1:70.The school has no permanent structures with a population of over 500 pupils. This situation called for an immediate intervention which UVDA through its activity has taken up and currently we have made 20,000 bricks but the classroom teaching and environment is still wanting. Through the LMTV programme we intend to mobilize the community and improve on the quality of teaching in Hillview Primary School
About the volunteer workConstruction of the classroom block,Teaching in classroom working with the school management to improve the status of the school and awareness on heritage issues and educational support; Guidance and counselling; environmental conservation activities; coordination of environmental club activities;
Local accommodationAccommodation will be on the school site. This is an rural setting and most of the food stuff is original Buganda culture with Kisoga as well. Vols will have to contribute from their pocket if they wish to have a foreign meal.
About the project locationThe project is located in the east part of Uganda close to JINJA district on the banks of the Source of the Nile.
