About the local hosting organizationThe project “RTVELI” is organized and implemented with The Charity Association of Multi Children Families of Georgia “For the Future of Georgia” MOTIVATION: Georgia is considered to be one of the oldest homelands of viniculture in the world It is proved that wine making in Georgia has been practiced since the 3rd millennium BC. For many centuries wine remains one of the fascinating symbols of Georgian history and culture. The vineyard and wine culture is very rich and is based on ancient traditions. Vineyards occupy about 38,000 ha of land. This East Georgia region still keeps the ancient traditional secrets of making vine. The most famous among them is the Tsinandali factory, which started operation back in 1865. Famous sorts of Georgian wines are Rkatsiteli, Manavi, Napareuli, Tsinandali, Vazisubani, Mukuzani, Saperavi, Kindzmarauli, Khvanchkara etc.. “RTVELI” is a quite active holiday in Georgia, as lots of people are gathered in Kakheti region every year to participate in it. Working in this camp you will have an opportunity to take part in most important event in Georgia “Gathering of grapes” and in the wine making process (in grape extraction).
About the volunteer workThe volunteers will take part in watering plants and picking vegetables in the gardens, work in the vineyard and in a cornfield. The work will include collecting garbage and collecting and cutting wood. You will have an opportunity to take part in the wine making process (in grape extraction). about 4–6 hours (6 days a week) and help the local community in vineyards and some garden renovation work – depending on the weather condition.
Local accommodationACCOMMODATION: «House of Nature Friends ELISO» (HNF) – 2 floors village house with 1 kitchen on the first floor and 2 bedrooms on the second and first floors, bathroom and toilet (inside and outside), balcony and two more bedrooms on the second floor. ADDRESS: KAKHETI, AKHALSOPELI, SHOTA RUSTAVELI str. 110. FOOD: Three times a day. The volunteers are offered a chance to learn national dishes, to bake the bread “puri” also take cooking course of Georgian cuisine: mtsvadi, khinkali, khachapuri and churchxela. If you’ll bring your fishing rods, we’ll organize fishing days. We can arrange some picnics in the beauties of Kakheti.
About the project locationLEISURE TIME: Participation in celebration of city days “Tbilisoba Festival”. The volunteers will have the opportunity to visit a lot of historical monuments, churches and monasteries.
Requirements***Participation fee is to be paid upon arrival.
Extra info about the projectWHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bags are required. Warm clothes, hand towel and toothbrush, garden glove, high overshoes (gum boots) and of course photo/video camera. You will need some kind of working clothes for the camp activities. You can also bring your music instruments with you, CD or DVD with your favorite national songs and music.
