About the local hosting organizationCome to discover a typical village of Beaujolais located a few kilometers from Lyon and participate in a workcamp in the heart of vineyards! This year the community of Lucenay hosts its first international workcamp during which you will restore a former quarry which has been massively exploited for limestone construction projects. In this highly touristic region you will discover a small charming and dynamic village where numerous cultural attractions are waiting for you.
About the volunteer workOn the site of a former quarry you will work together to restore its value, in particular by renovating dry stone walls and by developing the paths facilitating hiking and the discovery of the place.
Local accommodationYou will be accommodated under tents on a land plot in the heart of the village. Bring a warm sleeping bag. The kitchen, the toilets, the showers and the space for group leisure activities will be inside a building located not far away from the workcamp. You will be able to shelter there in case of bad weather. You will cook in turns using the products bought on site (in particular, fruits grown by the community). We will encourage the purchase of local seasonal products as well as short circuits. The volunteers might also have an opportunity to taste local specialties provided by local producers.
About the project locationAbout twenty kilometers north from Lyon and a dozen kilometers the south from Villefranche-sur-Saône lies the municipality of Lucenay which belongs to Beaujolais region. It counts more than 1800 inhabitants and is a part of the community of Communes of Beaujolais-Pierres Dorées. Lucenay is a dynamic village with lots of local shops, sportive and cultural associations, one of which, Patrimonia, regularly organizes events allowing the residents of the region to (re)discover the heritage and local history. In July they have a rich cultural programme giving you an opportunity to witness numerous performances. You will also be able to swim in the basin of Colombier located a few kilometers from the village and to set off for numerous walks waiting for you nearby!
Extra info about the projectFor the work, remember to bring gloves, clothes and shoes which you don’t mind getting dirty. Nights may be chilly, bring a warm sleeping bag and warm clothes. Do not forget sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen…) and your swimsuit as well. You will be working under the supervision of our technical leader who, together with the municipality, will guarantee your security on site. Group leisure activities will be programmed together with our camp leaders taking into account your suggestions! You will plan together your visits and activities during your stay. If you would like to share a bit of your culture (cooking recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects…), do not hesitate to bring a piece of your country in your backpack! Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
