About the local hosting organizationSOS Children’s Villages are a global charity, politically and religiously independent, working to prevent family breakdown and protect and care for children who have lost parental care. SOS works to ensure that the rights of all children, in every society, are respected and fulfilled. Children are growing up in families where they can stay together with their brothers and sisters. Currently, the organisation is active in 134 countries. In Hungary it provides safe and loving home for 400 children and youngsters. Útilapu - SCI Hungary started to cooperate with SOS Hungary 4 years ago. It will be the 2nd year when an international voluntary workcamp is organised in SOS Children’s Village Orosháza, involving youngsters between 12-18 years old.
About the volunteer workThe volunteers will plan, organise and carry out educational sessions in English, free-time activities (e.g.: crafts workshops, sports events) and participate in light physical work with the youngsters. One of the focuses of the camp is that the youngsters meet and learn about other cultures, different customs, so the volunteers are also asked to prepare an interactive presentation about their home country and bring it to the camp. The volunteers will contribute to the other aim of the camp: shaping the long-term life plans and perspectives of the youngsters through career orientation sessions; and widen their knowledge organising international evenings. They will also assist in the organisation of a local, traditional one-day festival on the 20th August, Hungary’s foundation day.
Local accommodationThe accommodation will be in a dormitory in Orosháza. Please bring a sleeping-bag! The ingredients are provided for the meals and volunteers will cook together with the children. Some days there will be lunch provided by a local restaurant.
RequirementsWe recommend our camp to proactive, brave, cheerful and hard-working people who like children. Please write us a separate MOTIVATION LETTER to explain us why you find it attractive to participate in this particular camp and how you could support the success of the camp, and contribute with your ideas to the programme!
Extra info about the projectPlease note, that the camp is organised in a child protection organisation with the participation of vulnerable youngsters, therefore the consumption of any drugs, alcohol or tobacco is strictly FORBIDDEN! Volunteers will help to plan, organise and carry out educational activities and physical voluntary work sessions like collecting garbage in the town with local kids, helping to organise a festival etc.
