About the local hosting organizationAssociaçÝ£o FundaçÝ£o Casemiro Bruno Kurtz is part of the YMCA organization and since its foundation in 1976 it is a charity project seeking to offer a program focused on human, cultural and social development education for children, young people and families from the local community.
About the volunteer workThe Project offers different activities such as sports, music, theatre, capoeira, pedagogical activities, computer and art classes and other manual workshops such as recycling paper, making candles and soaps. It has the same structure as a kindergarten for little children and it also organizes workshops for older people. The team consist of about 25 paid staff, trainees and volunteers (pedagogue, experts on nutrition, social workers, psychologist and administration staffs). To know the project, the volunteers will initially be asked to assist and participate in all the different areas: sports, recreational, pedagogical and artistic area. Later, according to his/her experiences, skills and project's needs, he/she will be able to choose to help in some workshops and activities such as street dancing, sport, music, capoeira, theatre and corporal expressions, informatics, pedagogical activities, art and painting, ecological workshops etc. He/she will have the possibility to organize some personal workshops or activities as well for example have previous volunteers organized origami workshop, box, baseball, visit to local parks etc.
Local accommodationThe volunteer will stay with a host family.
About the project locationLe site du projet est situé à 25 minutes en bus du centre-ville de Porto Alegre, qui est la capitale de l'état Rio Grande do Sul, le plus au sud du Brésil. La ville a une population d'environ 1.500.000 habitants, étant très grande et urbanisée
Extra info about the projectAttention : les projets STEPS ICYE ne sont pas des chantiers de groupes. Le placement est individuel (ou à 2 ou 3 volontaires maxi), hébergement en famille. Arrivées les 1er lundi du mois, de mars à novembre. Programme fermé du 1er décembre à 28 février.
