About the local hosting organizationICYE MEXICO
About the volunteer workHogar Canino Vida Nueva is an organization from the civil society focused on the protection of homeless dogs and cats that are injured, in a state of malnutrition and in a state of imminent danger. The problematic surrounding homeless dogs and cats in Atlixco, Puebla exemplifies the big picture of Mexico regarding the nonexistence of a culture that corresponds responsibly with the care of animals, particularly dogs and cats. Hogar Canino Vida Nueva, A.C believes that the nonexistence of an education in the community, geared at taking care of dog and cats, is the main cause of maltreatment of animals; having consequences in the health dimension of humans as well. Hogar Canino Vida Nueva, A.C focuses throughout the year on providing medical attention, vaccination, food, therapy, grooming and baths to homeless dogs and cats during the stay in the shelters. The project also focuses on searching and providing homes for these dogs and cats as well as undertaking sterilization campaigns at a low or free cost in marginalized communities. Administer medication to dogs and cats, previously indicated by the staff. Shower/ clean dogs and cats depending on the climate of the day, specially cleaning their hears and paws. Groom and hug the homeless dogs and cats of the shelter. Play with the homeless dogs and cats of the shelter, in order to provide a friendly environment for them. Develop new ideas in order to enrich the program. Provide assistance in the sterilization campaigns and in the educational talks given to marginalized communities of the zone.
