About the volunteer workPesantren or Pondok Pesantrens are Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. The pesantren education system originated from traditional Javanese dormitories to learn religious philosophies. Pesantren have played a major role over the centuries. They emphasise cores values of sincerity, simplicity, individual autonomy, solidarity and self-control. Young men and women are separated from their families, which contributes to a sense of individual commitment to the faith and close bonding to a teacher. Most of pesantren provide to Indonesian citizens dormitory living at low or no cost for the students. The students start activities early morning prayer then ended the evening with a study group in the dormitory. During the day, the students attend formal school like any other students outside of pesantren (science, sport, English etc). In the late afternoon and evening they have to attend religious studies. Main Activities The pesantren has possible components such as traditional religious education, vocational skills training and character development. The project sites will be in Pesantren Roudlotul Mubtadiin Jepara & Pesantren Al Madani Gunungpati, both are located in rural area. Those pesantren previously used to receive long term volunteers from Europe. The main activities incude formal and non-formal English conversation activities; interactive learning activities with students, education, and to get better understanding about Islam. The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like organizing basic English conversation, helping teacher in giving training; to motivate the students in studying; to organize activities that will enrich the life skill of the students; and to get involve in other various activities at project site.
Local accommodationThe accommodation and food will be provided by a local host. The volunteer will stay in the dormitory or host family (to be confirmed). Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no internet, and no washing machine). Three main meals a day will be provided by the host family or at dormitory simple basic Indonesian food, rice, tapioca/cassava, fish, vegetables, etc.

Extra info about the projectVolontariat de 4 à 16 semaines; frais supplémentaires de 400€ pour le 1er mois, puis 75€ par semaine. Placement individuel, programme ouvert toute l'année
