About the local hosting organizationThe association Jaunatne smaidam / Youth for Smile is a non-profit non-governmental youth organization established in 2005. Our organization's mission says that we are a strong and value-based children and youth non-governmental organization that in achieving its goals, objectives and basic principles acts as impetus for the strengthening of the basic principles of civil society. Our main aim is to unite children and youth to promote their participation in non-formal education in order to develop their skills and abilities to take part actively in social processes at local, national and international levels. All our activities coincide with our values such as fairness and equality; mutual understanding and tolerance; active and healthy way of living; the development of personality; understanding and a creative atmosphere; environment-friendly behaviour. Our target group is children and youth in Bauska, Iecava, Rundāle and Vecumnieki municipalities. Within our strategy, we point out five directions of our activities.
About the volunteer workVolunteers will help to organise outdoor activities for socially disadvantaged children in Vecumnieki municipality. At the first days of work camp participants will have a preparation training for outdoor activities with children, such as orientation, sport tourism, low and high ropes, non-formal education methods for team building and conflict management. Volunteers will assist in the integration and consolidation activities for children from the age of 7 up to 15. These activities will be organised in different villages in Vecumnieki municipality (Stelpe, Barbele, Vecumnieki, Misa, Skaistkalne, Kurmene, and Valle).
Local accommodationLiving conditions are very basic. The volunteers will be accommodated in the building of the youth house. Sometimes it could be necessary to stay in tents if the work requires. Toilets and washing facilities will be provided. Cooking will be done by volunteers themselves in the kitchen or on a campfire. Volunteers should bring their sleeping bags.
About the project locationWork camp will be organized in Vecumnieki municipality. The Vecumnieki municipality borders with Iecava, Bauska, Nereta, Ķegums, Baldone and Jaunjelgava municipalities and the Republic of Lithuania. The municipal territory consists of Kurmene, Valle, Bārbele, Skaistkalne, Stelpe and Vecumnieki parishes. The administrative centre of the municipality is Vecumnieki located 50 km from Rīga and 30 km from Bauska. During a work camp we will have possibilities to visit different cultural and historical places. Volunteers will have possibilities to organise intercultural events, etc.
