About the local hosting organizationLa Consolacion College of Bais City (LCC) - officially opened on 13th of June 2007. As a catholic school, LCC gives primary importance to the spiritual life of its students, faculty and personnel. It is a Catholic learning institution with students from Preparatory, Elementary, High School and College. LCC aims to promote students quality learning and learning potential, provide excellent skills to the students in the field of technology and theatre arts and to give an opportunity to the students to learn another culture and another language. LCC-Bais also actively supports the Inday Pita Tevez Escaño Farm School in Barangay Sab-ahan Bais City which aims the following: • Promote scientific farming using suitable crops and livestock in optimizing the productivity of the school and the community; • Enhance the knowledge, skills, attitudes and spiritual consciousness of the students and their families towards sustainable farming; • Develop young farmers and the out-of school youth in the community through the Alternative Learning System or Open High school so they can continue on vocational-technology courses or degree courses. • Develop socio-entrepreneurship among upland youth who are driven by an emotional and spiritual desire to address social, ecological, and economic conditions such as poverty, forest denudation and educational deprivation; • Enhance collaboration among students, parents, people’s organizations, LGUs and other stakeholders in sustainable agricultural based enterprise; • Develop local farmer/teacher volunteers who are sensitive to the needs of the community.

About the volunteer workIn coordination with the school administrator and Program Development staff, the volunteer will be task to assist in teaching academic or foreign language class, organization of school clubs, music, arts, theater and sports development. LCC may also assign volunteer to Inday Pacita Teves Farm School to provide support to organic farming and other agricultural related activities, work as field teachers for its academic and non-academic extension programs and other related community development activities outside the school.

About the project locationBais City is one of the key cities of Negros Oriental province in the Negros Island Region. Bais is famous for its vast plantation of sugarcanes and home of the country’s biggest sugar manufacturing plant the Baiz Azucarera. It is also a famous place for dolphin watching having one of the rich and most beautiful marine natural parks in Negros Island. Negros Island is rich in natural sea and land natural resources. During leisure time, volunteers can choose to visit various cultural and heritage sites like Bais Azucarera and Silliman University in Dumaguete City the first Protestant American University in the Philippines. They are also famous for their unique and exciting eco-tourism adventure activities like mountain trekking, cave exploration, dolphin watching or heed to the famous Apo Island in Dauin with the most beautiful natural marine park.

Extra info about the projectLCC prefers volunteers who have academic and work experience and or have strong interest in teaching preschool, elementary or secondary class. Otherwise the volunteer will be assigned in non-academic tasks. The volunteer should also be psychologically and spiritually prepared and or open to work in the catholic school and may observe their religious activities. Participants may bring their local food (Snacks/drink), educational supplies and art materials and used educational books if possible to be used and distributed to local children/youth in the farm school communities. They may also bring sports equipment to support the sports development program of the school. The project is open only during August and February. The host project can only accept maximum of two same sex volunteers at a time. Male volunteers will be accepted only when there is no female volunteer working in the project.
