About the local hosting organizationDe Wroeter is a non-residential center for socially disadvantaged people, with the objective of integration, education and unemployment relief work. Some of them have also a minor physical disability. The farm is situated in a beautiful countryside area. Growing vegetables and fruit in an ecological way is the main activity, next to maintaining the lanes, flowers and trees and occasional construction activities. The objective of the organization is to improve the social integration of the people by giving them work or useful daytime activities.
About the volunteer workTaking part in the daily tasks together with the people from De Wroeter: planting, harvesting, maintaining the crops, fruit picking, sorting the vegetables for the market, etc. Other tasks will include helping with gardening and selling of products. The daily work schedule of the local people (from 8 am to 4:15 pm) has to be followed, in order to help them to maintain some structure. Quite hard physical work. As compensation for the hard work, you will have one free day extra every week (so only 4 days of work a week).
Local accommodationThe volunteers will sleep together in a large room. Volunteers are supposed to bring their own sleeping bag, pillow and sleeping mat. There is also a kitchen to cook the freshly harvested veggies and a washing machine. Internet access is limited.
