About the local hosting organizationTHE GREEN LION
About the volunteer workProgram Description This action-packed week begins by visiting the site of an active volcano Kintamani. The first activity of the week involves a bicycle tour offering you a magnificent view of Mt. Batur and the surrounding landscape and takes you through spice plantations and rice fields. On the next day of the adventure, you will be spending the day at a Southern Bali beach and visiting the Turtle Conservation Village. Days 3 and 4 involve rafting down the beautiful Ayung river and a hike at sunrise up Mt. Batur. The last planned activity for the week is a relaxing Balinese massage which will relieve you of any aches and pains from the active week so the only thing you take back with you are wonderful memories.
Local accommodationAbout the Accommodation The Balinese place great importance on family and our houses are located amongst Balinese compounds, where you will get the chance to interact with local families and practice your newfound language skills. You can expect to share a room (dormitory style) on single gender basis. The bathroom is shared and western toilets are available. Food Arrangements The meals are provided in buffet style at the canteen. Indonesian food is tasty and diverse and you can expect to experience a myriad of flavors and meals during their stay. Typical dishes included mie goreng (fried noodles and vegetables), nasi goreng (fried rice and vegetables) or gado gado (mixed vegetables with a satay sauce). For those who do not eat meat, Indonesian cooking uses a lot of tofu and tempeh (soybeans), we also provide for some of western dishes. Breakfasts are varied and include pancakes, fresh fruit, toast etc. Tea, coffee and purified water is available at the house. We do not recommend that you drink the tap water.
About the project locationYou will be accommodated in one of our houses in the village of Penestanan Kaja. Located on the outskirts of Ubud, village life is quintessentially local here and you will get a good chance to see typical Balinese life roosters crowing and all!
