About the local hosting organizationTHE GREEN LION
About the volunteer workDesigned for our less adventurous travellers, the Bali Comfort Experience combines three weeks of relaxation and community work. Although similar to the Bali experience program, its relaxed pace caters to the needs of families travelling with children and older travellers. It allows for interaction with locals and a chance to engage with Balinese culture with activities such as Bali Batik painting and visits to temples and traditional markets such as the Sukawati Art Market. The program is divided up as follows: Week 1: Introduction to Bali, Week 2: Community Work and Week 3: A week of relaxation This may also be combined with one of our other programs on offer such as the Bali Beach Holiday or the Yoga/Meditation week. Our community work programs leave an indelible impression on most participants and as such if you grow to empathize with and love the work done there, we offer you the opportunity for a one-week extension to community work on request.
Local accommodationAbout the Accommodation The Balinese place great importance on family and our houses are located amongst Balinese compounds, where you will get the chance to interact with local families and practice your newfound language skills. You can expect to share a room (dormitory style) on single gender basis. The bathroom is shared and western toilets are available. Food Arrangements The meals are provided in buffet style at the canteen. Indonesian food is tasty and diverse and you can expect to experience a myriad of flavors and meals during their stay. Typical dishes included mie goreng (fried noodles and vegetables), nasi goreng (fried rice and vegetables) or gado gado (mixed vegetables with a satay sauce). For those who do not eat meat, Indonesian cooking uses a lot of tofu and tempeh (soybeans), we also provide for some of western dishes. Breakfasts are varied and include pancakes, fresh fruit, toast etc. Tea, coffee and purified water is available at the house. We do not recommend that you drink the tap water.
About the project locationYou will be accommodated in one of our houses in the village of Penestanan Kaja. Located on the outskirts of Ubud, village life is quintessentially local here and you will get a good chance to see typical Balinese life roosters crowing and all!
