About the local hosting organizationTHE GREEN LION
About the volunteer workOur medical initiative is in its infancy and requires the skills of both established medical and healthcare professionals and those interested in teaching basic first aid and hygiene. This need for having participants on either end of the medical spectrum arises due to the great extremes in hygiene and health practices. Apart from needing qualified professionals in order to conduct health camps and dental check-ups, we also need participants who can educate people in the areas of basic first aid and personal hygiene. This works towards the prevention of many avoidable health problems and easily communicable diseases. It might not seem much at first, but for those with an interest in teaching simple hygiene you are able to play an immediate and future role. Personal hygiene is quite often not common practice with the children you will meet Simple things such as hygiene, washing hands, brushing teeth and basically general cleanliness overall, clothes as well. There are great extremes of hygiene in Bali, This healthcare education project is not to show them the western way, but rather by sharing knowledge and raising awareness of the importance of these issues to prevent and sustain healthcare. We are actively supporting the development of this collaborative initiative beyond teaching the benefits of brushing your teeth, for instance, onto small dental camps and local check-ups. Taking part as an healthcare ambassador you will support our team of other participants and local professionals to educate Balinese families and children.

About the project locationApproximately 35 kilometers east of Bali at its closest point, lays the island Lombok (80 km by 70 km) populated by mostly Sasak people. Lombok is an Indonesian island east of Bali and west of Sumbawa known for picturesque beaches and prime surfing area. The motor-vehicle-free Gili Islands, off Lombok's west coast, offer more beaches, reefs for diving and snorkeling, and a sea turtle hatchery. It differs considerably from its neighbor islands, with lots of wide-open spaces and unspoiled beaches, and much less traffic and pollution. The island's northern area is dominated by the remarkable bulk of Gunung Rinjani, and trekking at least part of the way up is the reason many travelers come to Lombok. Lombok does not receive as much display as its hugely popular neighbor Bali. Nevertheless, many Indonesians prefer vacationing in Lombok over Bali for many reasons: prices for accommodation, food and attractions are often a good deal cheaper, and the island”™s scenic spots are still unmolested by the gated villa developments, cheap cocktail bars and souvenir shops that have spread across so much of Bali, at least for now.
