About the local hosting organizationTumaini Fund for Economic Development International (TFEDI) is a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in the slums (ghetto's) of Nairobi, Kenya. It is set up in order to fight the widespread poverty, HIV/ AIDS and many social problems in Nairobi's slums and ghetto's. Tumaini Fund is also offering as Micro-Finance project as a strategy to reduce poverty. This is done under Small Assistance Enterprise Program (SEAP). Tumaini's vision is to see a society where the children, youth, women and men are healthy and financially capably of providing in their basic needs.
TFEDI aims to support the local community through church development projects, entrepreneurship education and training, business advocacy and the provision of micro credits to start up small businesses.
About the volunteer work
- Entering the organizational information data and expanding the Microsoft Access database
- Preparation of reports as profit and losses and the improvement of the administration processes by organizing a proper filing system
- HIV/AIDS Programme-where there is issuing of loans to the People Living With HIV/AIDS
- Updating the organization's website
Local accommodationThe volunteer will stay in a host family near the project site. The host family provides breakfast and dinner.
About the project location
The project is located in Buruburu estate in Nairobi, about 10 minutes walk CIVS offices.
About the leisure activities possible
CIVS Kenya organizes tours and safaris to spectacular sites of interest in Kenya. Volunteers, who wish to participate, should let us know as soon as possible in order to enable us to make proper arrangements. The fee charged is all-inclusive of meals, transport, park entry fees, accommodation and tour guiding. The cost of a 3 days safari to Masai Mara National Reserve is 330 Euro.
About the meeting point
When you are booking your flight, please make sure that your arrival is at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. A member of the CIVS will pick you up at your arrival.
Extra info about the project
There will be an orientation seminar for new volunteers lasting three days including Nairobi city introduction and project placement.
The project will be available throughout the year.
The participation fees are 200€/month (staying of 2 months and longer), or 250€ for 1 month only.
