About the volunteer workAfter a day of getting to know each other and making plans together, you will be working with the “PallasT” organisation within the Berlin district of Schöneberg on their summer holiday activities. You will be working directly alongside the employees of the organisation. You can choose between one of three projects. Firstly, you could choose to help design an exciting and varied holiday schedule, including some day-trips and excursions. Within this you can offer a variety of workshops, such as crafts, painting, design, or even a media or music project, depending on your own interests. Secondly, you could support the teachers of the summer school with their lessons as well as organising free-time activities for children from refugee or Roma families. The third possibility is to renovate rooms, repair bicycles and other items donated to refugees as well as sewing and repairing donated clothes. If you choose to help out in the classroom, you'll need a good level of German, and knowledge of other languages such as English, French, Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish would also be useful.
Local accommodationAll participants will be sleeping on mattresses on the floor of one room in the youth leisure centre “PallasT”. Meals will be prepared and cooked in small groups. Smoking is forbidden in your accommodation and it is against the rules to be in the possession of, or indeed drink, alcohol within the building.
