About the local hosting organizationGIED, NVDA and The Local Government of Cordova will co-organize the Special Workcamp in Gilutungan Island as part of the highlights of the 1st Asian Volunteering Summit. The special workcamp hopes to gather Asian youth (mainly active members of IVS NGOs) together with the IVS NGO leaders who will share their experience and visions.
About the volunteer workThe project will focus on solid waste management and environment education campaign together with the locals as well as inter-cultural interaction the community. Participants will help raise environmental awareness and be an inspiration to the locals. Health and nutrition activities will likewise be undertaken to look into the improvement of health and hygiene of local community in a long term scale.
Local accommodationThe international participants will be accommodated in a local house made of bamboo beside the beach. Supply of electricity is only available during 5 PM to 11 PM powered by a generator; water supply is very limited in the Island. No shower in bathrooms. Pale and water dipper is available in the basic local toilet. Personal sleeping bag is needed. Filipino food will be served.
About the project locationMarine sports with white sand, Island hopping near Gilutungan Island, Heritage in Mactan and Cebu.
RequirementsMay bring sport materials, art materials and own country’s food and costume. Used educational books if possible may be possible as well.
