About the volunteer workCanoeing on the river Ilmenau in the L?neburg Heath region is a popular tourist attraction for nature lovers and for families. This nature sport allows tourists and locals alike to experience an ecologically valuable river landscape worth protecting, full of different types of plants and animals. Local canoe hiring stations are sensitive to the Ilmenau habitat and contribute to its sustainability by renting out only eco-friendly canoes. For 2 weeks, your group will be helping with the restoration and construction of bridges at the entrance points to the river, which at the moment are not in good shape. In the third week of the camp, you will be helping with some renaturation work: by spreading gravel, you will help to restore the natural habitat for brook trout and micro-organisms. For this type of work you will be well-equipped with Wellington boots and angler trousers.
