With this project we aim to encourage cross cultural exchanges and provide a deeper insight of our culture. Months of October and November host two prominent Indian festivals of national importance. The dates are decided on yearly basis as per Hindu calendar. These camps are specially organized for those who are interested in Indian history and culture. This period is also supposed to be auspicious for marriages. Besides local festivals, volunteers will have an opportunity to learn of Hindu traditions.

It is 50 km north of Chandigarh city and 70 kms from Shimla town. Baddi offers a number of treks to tourists and a good majestic view of range of mountains. The economy of the area depends on agriculture and industries. The volunteers will have opportunity to visit Kasauli hill station or Hanuman Temple in Shimla, the Naldehra Golf Club and a local zoo or the Rock Garden in Chandigarh.

Having a digital footprint is no more a desire but a necessity for organizations. We have witnessed how people and organizations have used social media as a strong platform for awareness, networking, shopping, education, etc. We aim to introduce and empower children on digital media in a few select NFE centres. Covid pandemic had increased demand of smart phones for a living and online classes for children. However, due to lack of knowledge these phones are still underutilized. We expect volunteers to educate children and parents on use of these digital devices to optimize their performance.

Nepal, a landlocked country between India and China, is famous for its spectacular Himalayan landscapes, but it also faces significant challenges in terms of food security and agricultural sustainability. This volunteer project focuses on permaculture, an approach to agriculture that draws inspiration from nature to create productive, resilient, and environmentally friendly systems. The fundamental principle is to prioritize small-scale, gradual solutions that use local resources, thereby ensuring more sustainable results for communities.
Volunteers work hand in hand with local farmers who have been trained in permaculture techniques by our partner organization. The volunteer’s involvement is all a form of practical support.
The volunteer’s daily activities may include:
designing and developing farms according to permaculture principles;
carrying out hands-on agricultural tasks such as planting, weeding, irrigation, and harvesting;
training new farmers in permaculture practices and providing practical support for their implementation;
assisting in the production of organic fertilizers, such as compost, to enrich the soil without the use of chemicals.
The project offers the opportunity to experience a unique and meaningful stay in Nepal.

VIN has a hostel which can accommodate up to 35 people, with up to five bunk beds per room.
During the volunteer induction, volunteers will share these rooms.
If the hostel is unavailable, VIN organizes accommodation close-by in a hotel or different hostel.
During your stay at the host family or monastery/nunnery, your sleeping arrangements may be private to sharing basis.
Bathroom and toilet facilities are shared with your host family or monks/ nuns.
Hygiene standards vary from family to family/place to place. Sometimes it is very basic, and hot water might only be available. We kindly ask volunteers to be flexible and be prepared to cope with non-western standards.

In regards to food, volunteers will receive three meals a day, in Nepali standard. The main dishes are rice-based such as Daal Bhat (lentil soup and rice), vegetables and curries are staple foods.
Nepalese people rarely eat meat or fish and have a mainly vegetarian diet. Eating bread is also uncommon. Nepalese food is high in carbs.
If you wish to supplement your foods with more variety (such as types of vegetables, eggs or fruits) then the cost lies with you but host families are happy to prepare the extra food items for you.
In the host families and monasteries/ nunnery you will share their food and please inform us if have any specific allergies or dietary requirements.

All the registration formalities will be completed in the first three days during the induction period. This will consist of understanding and signing a contract and paying the project fee.
Please note that the entire project fee will be collected during the induction days.
You will have to produce a photocopy of your passport and of your visa as well as a passport photo. VIN will issue a volunteer identity card for you.

Inductions start every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.
The induction period is part of your placement and it will provide essential information about VIN, the project, our culture, and customs.
So please arrive one day BEFORE to the induction date.

The induction will last 2 to 3 full days (accommodation and food is provided) and includes the following topics:
• Introduction to the organization: A brief history of VIN, its projects, and working sites.
• Sightseeing: It’s important for us that volunteers see sites of cultural importance, such as Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square and other areas.
• Cultural and health tips: Nepal has lots of different rules and regulations in our culture and these tips will help volunteers to adapt to the Nepali lifestyle.
We also provide information about how to stay safe whilst being in Nepal. This includes health and safety tips, information about foods and travel tips. VIN has its own doctor so if you have any concerns whilst on placement, you can get help right away.
• Nepali Language Classes: Each volunteer receives two to three Nepali language classes from one of VIN’s staff members. This will help with basic communication.
• Placement Information: All volunteers receive a support pack with detailed information about the placement, host family, and a daily schedule of volunteers.
• Project Orientation: Volunteers meet their supervisors, who will spend time with each other and plan for their projects.

Duration: 12 weeks 2 Locations: Hveragerdi & Solheimar Eco-Village Participants will have the opportunity to visit one or two projects. During this project, the placements will be based on availability and Organization needs. Both projects are within 30 min distance. Please note that this project is a learning/exchange project where everyone is expected to contribute their own knowledge and experience, and not a standard work camp. Apart from these additional responsibilities, you will participate in general activities as a volunteer. Projects are organized with international volunteers. Main Project Activities: Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Gardening & Renovation. Improve the environmental education and consciousness of the project's participants. Hveragerði: The work in this camp is coordinated by The Natural Health Association. They have a Horticultural and Environmental Department, including Forestry, Gardening, and Agriculture (Greenhouse), which is where Worldwide Friends volunteers work most of the time. The work will be in the greenhouses planting and harvesting vegetables, doing weed control and sometimes you will also be gardening. The agriculture that is practiced in the center is organic/bio. The workcamp leaders will work as a team under the supervision of the Project Manager of the organization, and the Manager from the NHAI. Sólheimar: The main work in this camp will be in forestry called í–lur and also in the greenhouses which are called Sunna. The main activities, but not limited to are; Forestry; managing, planting, using, conserving, and repairing forests, woodlands, and associated resources for human and environmental benefits. Agriculture: cultivating soil; planting; raising, and harvesting crops. Horticulture: growing fruits, vegetables, and plants. Environmental work on the property (Renovation when needed) *During winter the work might include snowplowing. Participants might be required to help in the workshops in Solheimar.

House Capacity: 9 participants total Sólheimar: The house is across the village and has 4 double rooms with a private bathroom each, a fully equipped kitchen, and common areas. The common areas are shared with some of the local workers. House Capacity: 8 participants total Food is provided and everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. We provide a well-balanced and healthy variety of food products that includes a wide variety of whole grains, seasonal fruits & vegetables, pantry staples, dairy products, vegetarian/vegan options. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favorite recipes from home! Wireless internet access is provided free of charge. We encourage our volunteers to try vegan and vegetarian food during their stay with us.

Every summer for 25 years now, the village organises its weekly night market in partnership with many local associations. The first night market in the territory of Haute Saintonge, this local event brings significant vibrancy and dynamism to the territory. This year, the goal is to integrate the principle of responsible consumption into the market through actions that raise awareness, and that experiment with recycling and waste all while incorporating an international dimension! It's in this manner that the village of Montendre wished to create an international workcamp, around its festive event, in order to integrate a stable, responsible, and international dynamic. This will also be an opportunity to talk about volunteering and citizenship through your engagement in this project. With this project, you will be actively working for the Sustainable Development Goal n°12 from the United Nations: Responsible production and consumption.

Accompanied by a technical facilitator specialized in environmental matters and committed to daily responsibility, the volunteers will begin by assisting the association in organizing market logistics, including setting up stands and aiding other local associations participating in the event. The volunteer stay in a host family that offers a shared room with another sibling sometimes, two meals a day while volunteer can get lunch at the project, and boiled water. Volunteer can walk or take dala-dala (minibus tax) from/to the project.

The staple diet of Tanzania depends on the region in which you are in. In the north-west regions, the people prefer ugali (hardened mash of mealier meal) as the staple carbohydrate, whilst people in the southwestern regions prefer plantains and rice along the coast.

This is for both people in the rural and urban areas. Usually, the staple is coupled with fish, beef, chicken, goat, or lamb stew with vegetables such as spinach pumpkins and sweet potatoes. Also, chipsi mayai (French Fries in Eggs) is a very popular around the city and favorite food for many girls and women.

Asian food has become a common trend in Tanzania, widening the variety of palatal experience during your stay. With a wide array of fishing bays in the country, Tanzania is home of seafood as well.

Ceremonial occasions are usually riddled with platters of food such as the pilau (spiced rice, potato, and meat) and it is encouraged to feast as much as you can during such ceremonies as leaving hungry is considered an insult to the host according to tradition.

Local beer and spirits delivered from fermented bananas, corn, rice, honey, or sorghum is the common alcoholic beverages found in the country. Konyagi, a gin like spirit, is a more popular spirit brewed for commercial purpose in Tanzania as are a variety of beers and soft drinks.

The main achievement of the project is to protect the sea turtles with the help of volunteers who will be cooperating with a team of biologists. Up to now, the project has been quite successful and has reached extraordinary results. Participating in sea turtle conservation is a great opportunity to discover the rather charming life of sea turtles.

Depending on the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night, and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. This village has been welcoming ohenro (pilgrims) who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. Also, Sudachi, an essential ingredient in Japanese cuisine, is now facing a serious risk of disappearing due to the aging of its producers. This project involves working in sudachi farming to help revitalize the local production area, while also promoting international exchange with the few children living in the region and giving them opportunities to experience different cultures. Since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage, locals are trying to find new ways for omotenashi (hospitality). We aim to restore and beautify the old, charming village scenery together with volunteers, and make it a place where many people will want to visit.

The nearest int'l airport is Kansai (Osaka). From Osaka to the meeting point in Tokushima, it takes 3
hours by highway bus. Volunteers are recommended to arrive at Japan by the day before the
workcamp starts and leave Japan from the day after the end. Volunteers need to arrive at the
meeting point at 15:00 on 1st day (then, take a local train to the campsite about 1h) and can leave
project site around noon on the last day.

Inspired and founded by a former street boy, KITO combats poverty by providing economic opportunities. So impressive in 1828, that its landscape architect went on to design the magnificent Botanique in Brussels. We created a "third place" in the park, where the orangeries that framed the largest greenhouse still stand. Today, it is a place where creativity, reflection, exchange of knowledge, sharing of experience and solidarity - both local and international - come together. On site, we organize residencies for researchers and artists, concerts, exhibitions, screenings, workshops, meetings with the public, performances, permaculture initiations, etc. Also because "ptry is a weapon charged with the future" (Gabriel Celaya). And because permaculture is the key to linking aesthetics with the new pages of agriculture, ecology and social issues.

Until the late 1980s, the Orangeries de Bierbais were part of the ChEteau de Bierbais park. In the 19th century, this 2.5-hectare part of the park was home not only to a collection of remarkable fruit and ornamental trees, but also to internationally renowned monumental heated greenhouses, the Bierbais greenhouses, within English-style gardens designed by landscape architect Charles-Henri Petersen, who lived in Bierbais until his death in 1859.
