A propos de l'oraganisation locale

CPCS was founded in 2002 to answer the children’s needs in the streets of Nepal. Every year, hundreds of kids, hundreds of kids, attracted by the allure of the “big city”, leave their villages. Once there, they discover the harsh realities of life in the streets and are left on their own to face multiple forms of danger and abuse (moral, sexual and physical).

CPCS was created to support these children and youth and to prevent more children from ending up in the streets.

The organization’s work can be divided into three steps:

1. Prevention (prior to and during the street life): set of interventions focused in two ways: –prevent and, if possible, avoid the arrival of the child in the street –create awareness among general public, the families and the children themselves on the realities of life in the Streets (its causes, its daily routines and its consequences).

2. Risk reduction (during life in the streets): short-term perspective focusing on immediate reduction of the dangers of street life.

3. Social rehabilitation (the life after living in the streets): long-term perspective focusing on progressive and eventual reintegration of a child into society. (Deinstitutionalisation)

CPCS International and its local partners currently run four regional centers (Sindhuli – CRPC, Dolakha – CPCR, Morang – ORCHID, Kathmandu – CPCS NGO) backsupporting 41 local centers (where CLASS (CPCS Local Action Support and Services) programs are being held.

Daily, up to 850 children are being helped with our organization’s activities, 400-500 children are supported by our socialization or rehabilitation centers, 1600 ex-street children and children at risk go to school and several dozens receive medical or legal support.

A propos du travail de volontaire

In this center, 30-60 girls and boys are sheltered in a rehabilitation program (before going back to their own house) and 500 families (2000 children) are supported in various local schools.

Children in the Rehabilitation program are accomodated in this center. This phase takes as long as the child needs it and until he can go back to his family or another organization.

This center also hosts the schooling program, which is part of the rehabilitation program. This program is the first phase in which the child who has just been brought off the Streets integrates socially through activities such as creating art, education, sports and psychological support. If returning to their family does not appear as being an option for the child, they are instead encouraged to join the réhabilitation prigram in which they can engage and become more accommodated to the idea of going to school. We support all children who want to go (back) to school.

The shelter and rehabilitation center accomodates up to 80 children. (Sometimes more)

Here is a small vidéo showing and explaining the project there:

A propos du logement sur place

The volunteers will be sheltered in a nice cottage (2 volunteers in each room) nearby the Regional Office. Team members and children are living closeby and the area is very beautiful.

Localisation du projet

This Regional office is located at Deurali, in the remote district of Dolakha (5 hours drive from Kathmandu – east side of the country).

Exigences

1. Being 18 years old.

2. Being autonomous and independent. This is an important condition to be able to work in the existing structure. The volunteer must not be a burden to the team. He/she has to manage his daily routine and transportation himself, and be able to deal with the difficulties that come with distant travels (cultural, social, medical, practical).

3. Being prepared and informed about the country, reading the documents about the project and undertaking steps to raise funds (as a participation to the project and its centers and departments).

4. Being insured by an insurance company that covers medical repatriation, and support costs (even in case of conflicts/earthquakes in the country or the need of an helicopter evacuation).

5. Coming to Nepal with an active, respectful and social attitude.

Some remarks:

a. There are excellent travel agencies that organise trips to Nepal (and the Nepalese economy needs them). You can contact them for a touristic trip.

b. The hippie scene in Kathmandu is over since 30 years. Go to Amsterdam, it’s closer….

c. To meditate and resource yourself, there are excellent Buddhist centers and Hindhu ashrams all over the world. The children for whom we work already, face enough pyschological and identity problems.

 Being a volunteer is devoting oneself to others, sharing with them, giving, learning, watching, feeling, living, creating things with them. However, it is also a difficult step to integrate oneself into an existing system (in a different culture, with different habits and many things you may not understand!)

A propos de l'oraganisation locale

A propos du travail de volontairePROJECT: Our camp will allow you to learn about both global and local environmental issues through theory and practice. If you are concerned, for example, about climate change, waste management, animal protection, sustainable solutions and other environmental topics then this project is the one for you. Local Icelandic environmental issues as well as issues from the participants' countries will be addressed. Becoming one of over 2 million tourists coming to Iceland every year will leave a mark. This camp will help you to be an environmentally aware traveller and consumer. SEEDS Environmentally Aware camps will get a chance to improve the local environment through hands-on activities. Our groups usually join the campaign "Meet Us Do Not Eat Us" that SEEDS has been supporting for the last seven years: A whale protection awareness project run in cooperation with IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare). It may also be possible to organise a visit to a local recycling centre whereby a tour of the plant is given and the activities are explained. There are a selection of workshops whereby a deeper understanding of issues can be studied and discussed. Topics can include issues like animal farming, food waste, and sustainable practices such as collaborative consumption and veganism. We also offer typical local leisure activities (swimming pool, cinema and the flea market). Please note this project is a learning/sharing camp in which everybody is expected to contribute their own knowledge and experience, and not a standard workcamp. We organize some voluntary service but in some cases it will not be possible, as the weather does not always allow activities to take place outdoors.

A propos du logement sur placeVolunteers will stay in a house in Reykjavyk. The facilities are basic with a shower, washing machine, kitchen and everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. We will sleep in shared rooms in a sleeping bag accommodation. Please bring your own sleeping bag. We will receive food supplies and you will be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food from your home country for the international dinner.

Localisation du projetReykjavik is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with beautiful nature, using renewable energy sources - geothermal and hydro power. The world's northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. ReykjavÝk is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides. Reykjavik is often called 'the nightlife capital of the north', but there is so much more than pubs and clubs, it also gathers the most interesting of Icelandic culture. In the area closer than 100 Km from ReykjavÝk, there are several spectacular waterfalls, geysers, impressive coastline, geothermal park, lakes, mountains and many more.

A propos du point de rencontre

TERMINAL: Closest international Airport: Keflavݭk/Reykjavݭk (KEF). Bus station: Central Reykjavݭk (BSݍ).

Participants should have a motivation to learn and share on environmental and global issues, and should be open to new cultures. All volunteers are encouraged to bring environmental and sustainability suggestions to the group and collaborate with the leaders in planning activities. Excursions (Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle, South Shore, Northern Lights, Reykjanes Peninsula) can be arranged at discount fares. Weather in Iceland is unpredictable, it can be cold or rainy. Please bring warm waterproof clothes, waterproof boots, overcoats, scarves, gloves & hats as part of the project may take place outside.

A propos de l'oraganisation localeChea Smon is located along Tonle Sab lake, whose majority of the people are advantaged from the lake, but have limited access to electricity, market, education. There four neighboring villages – and those villagers share almost the same living condition. Around 30 % of the population work on boat permanently as they provide boat riding service for tourists to visit the main lake, and the jobs require them to bring children along with them for the assistant and also a way that kids can earn some money for their families. Currently, for Chea Smon Primary and Secondary school, we provide English classes in the curriculum, and the computer class with the both young and adult students. By doing this, more children will be back to school more regularly, and be motivated for further education. Supplementary education is important due to the lack of home education, and quality of education in the countryside. Join us to bring the children back to school and sharpen their talents with various skills. Inspire the kids to pursue higher education.

A propos de l'oraganisation localeReykjavik is a city full of energy, just waiting for you to experience it. Powered by heat from the earth below, with ever-changing weather sweeping across the landscape, its natural features are matched by the energy of its residents. Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, culture, nature, clean air - and Reykjavik has them in spades. All the advantages of a modern, forward-looking society are complemented by the beautiful natural setting. In a country of only just over 300,000 people, the Reykjavik capital area has a population of about 200,000. However, since it s the only major city in the country, Reykjavik has a lot of the amenities that you would only expect to find in a much larger center elsewhere in the world.Reykjavik is the world s northernmost capital city and is centered on the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula. Arrive at the right time of year, and in favorable conditions you will see the city s skyline silhouetted against the glowing, shimmering curtain of the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights. Reykjavik is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay to the north, while rugged lava-fields spread to the southeast. On a clear sunny day, the Snaefellsjokull glacier glitters on the western horizon like a crystal.

A propos du travail de volontaireEvery year WF Iceland hosts hundreds of international volunteers participating in projects all around the island. WF Iceland publishes a magazine called UNA where people can read about the life of the organization. In the beginning of the project volunteers will receive an introduction about the tasks - afterwards we will choose a topic for the newsletter. This is a great opportunity to step into different projects and to get to know Reykjavik even better. The group will take photos, create videos and conduct interviews with volunteers, local hosts and people living in the area. The outcome will be published in the UNA WF magazine. At the end of the project we will prepare the final version of the magazine and publish it online.

A propos du logement sur placeWorldwide Friends volunteers will be staying in a house located at the heart of historical downtown Reykjavik. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags and towels, but beds/mattresses and bed linens are provided. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge, and volunteers also have free access to shared desktop computers in communal areas. The accommodation provided by Worldwide Friends Iceland for volunteers in Reykjavik is located within short walking distance of many urban amenities, including: banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, public swimming pools, restaurants, cafes, libraries, theaters, shops, museums, and bus stations.Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favorite recipes from home

Localisation du projetOn weekends, the central location of the accommodations is ideal for enjoying Reykjavik s amazing nightlife, which is world-renowned for its wide array of bars, clubs, and concerts. WF Iceland will also organize reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights such as glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, geysers, lava forests, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents, or even icebergs.

A propos du travail de volontaireThe organization has a farmhouse on the outskirts of Reykjavik, 15 km from the center of the capital. Since the creation of Worldwide Friends, the organization has been looking an opportunity to set up a project that aims to promote sustainable living. Volunteers will do some renovating in the house and on the property, and take care of the work in the farm. We have few chickens, a cat, a greenhouse for growing herbs and vegetables and a piece of land where we grow potatoes, carrots and lettuce. All the vegetables grown in the farm are consumed by the volunteers living in the farm. Volunteers will help with all tasks related to the farm, as the work varies depending on the season. This year we will also have special topics to discuss in the workcamps. Volunteers will do some researches and share the knowledge related to the topics. A Sustainable Living is a good, useful and practical way to learn and use actions which reduce your environmental footprint. It gives you better living skills for a healthier lifestyle and a new approach to make better consumer choices. The main topics that we will explore are: growing food in your home, smart food shopping, food wasting, recycling, eco-building design, water efficiency, avoiding toxic chemicals and lower-carbon transport options.

A propos du logement sur placeWorldwide Friends volunteers will be staying in our house in Sveinsstadir, which is located on the outskirts of Reykjavik. This place is like a farm in the city, so you can enjoy pure nature and the city life of the capital at the same time. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags and towels, but beds/mattresses and bed linens are provided.
