Localisation du projet

Laos is an economically poor but developing country. The region of Vang Vieng is growing fast due to a large offering in tourist activities. However, this development mainly based on tourism also has its disadvantages: pollution, cultural loss and drug trafficking.
EEFA is an organisation dedicated to raising education, preserving the local culture, promoting health and protecting the environment.
EEFA facilitates positive and constructive interactions between locals and foreigners.

A propos des activités de loisirs possibles

The region of Vang Vieng is famous for the beauty of its landscapes and nature.
There are a lot of activities for tourists who wish to do sports or just relax outdoors:
- swimming in the various lagoons of the area,
- exploration of caves,
- trekking in the nearby mountains,
- climbing,
- kayaking,
- air balloon rides,
-...

Exigences

- To be 18 years old

- Strong motivation

We do not ask specific skills to our volunteers coming, and the work will be accessible to all. Indeed we always enjoy motivated volunteers. The only requirement is to have a good level of english, since our main activity is to teach english to the kids. Therefore the volunteers should feel more or less comfortable with their english level in order to teach, and also to be fully part of the community since we welcome volunteers from all nationalities, and we have local living with us, so it is important to speak english so everyone should feel integrated.

Informations supplémentaires sur le projet

The participation fees include full accommodation and board (food) and, on the days of arrival and departure, transportation between project site and Vang Vieng.

The volunteers pay a one-time donation of 390.000 kip (39 €) to support the EEFA Scholarship Program, which supports financially highly skilled students from economically poor families and allows them access to university. This one-time contribution is independent of the length of stay.

Then, volunteers staying between 1 and 6 months pay following daily contribution:

Volunteers staying longer than 6 months take over coordination roles and responsibilities. They pay the one-time contribution of 390.000 kip (39 €) and only the daily contribution during the first month. Their visa costs are taken over by EEFA during their stay. Starting in month 3, they receive a small financial compensation between 500.000 and 1.000.000 kip (50 to 100 €) per month.

30 days TOURIST VISA which is possible to extend, because Laos does not offer other kind of visa for volunteers. There are two ways to extend the tourist visa. The first one is to cross the border to go to Thailand and come back to Laos in order to get a new tourist visa. The border to Thailand is the Mekong river in the Capital City of Vientiane. The second option to extend the visa, is to go to an immigration office (in Vientiane or in Luang Prabang). The visa will be extended up to 30 more days as well. For the visa, each visa is extendable two times for 30 days in an immigration office. Then it is possible to cross by earth the border with Thailand, two times/year to get a new tourist visa. Then it possible to cross the Thai border by plane without any limit.

A propos de l'organisation locale

AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection is dedicated to a better future for exotic animals, such as primates, raccoons and lions. Unfortunately, there are still many animals living under dire conditions. They are traded illegally, kept as house pets or abused in the tourist and entertainment industries. We tackle this problem at source. Our foundation provides information and pleads for more effective animal legislation throughout Europe.

For animals that need urgent help, we provide shelter so they can recover. Our team heals them and helps them regain their lives as animals. Afterwards we look for a permanent placement for them. That way we make room in our Dutch and Spanish centres for other animals in need.

In addition, we share our knowledge and we are more than pleased to cooperate with similar organisations in order to enhance our impact.

A propos du travail de volontaire

At AAP the main focus is on the animals’ welfare so the majority of your activities will be directly linked to this. The team leaders of the different departments will decide on what kind of responsibilities you will be assigned with; this depends on the progress you are making and the confidence, reliability and understanding you show to the caretakers and team leaders. This means that activities of several ESC-ers may be different. How your individual responsibilities and tasks evolve during your ESC-project is largely dependent on you!

  • Works 4 days a week in a team of experienced animal caretakers and will be trained to carry out daily activities independently.
Is responsible for cleaning the animals’ enclosures.
  • Assists in furnishing the animals’ enclosures, e.g. replacing floor covering of enclosures and erecting beams and other structures.
  • Makes enrichment items for the animals to stimulate natural behavior and keeps an eye on their overall behavior.
  • Helps to prepare food and feeds the animals.
  • Takes care of small maintenance.
  • Reports peculiarities to the experienced caretakers and takes part in writing daily reports on the animals’ health and care.

A propos du logement sur place

The accommodation will be in one of AAP’s guest houses, where also other volunteers and interns live. These houses operate on a dormitory basis. You will have your own bedroom and need to share the living room, kitchen, bathroom and garden with other ESC-volunteers. It’s important that you are fully aware of this fact.

A propos des activités de loisirs possibles

It is very wise to save some money before coming to the Netherlands. The pocket and food money is decent for an ESC-volunteer but won’t leave you a lot of space to explore the country. If you really want to enjoy your ESC-experience, to explore the country and to meet up with other ESC-volunteers in other cities we highly recommend having some other resources other than the basic ESC allowance.

Exigences

This ESC project involves a lot of physical work. Depending on the department where you will work, up to 60% will involve cleaning but you can enjoy the animals in the process. Unfortunately we cannot make exceptions as to the amount of cleaning, that is why you need to be passionate about the animals, otherwise you will not enjoy this ESC- experience.

Every volunteer needs to participate the orientation week at VSA Learning Home on 1st – 5th of month before they are going to work at the project.

A propos de l'organisation locale

Volunteer Spirit Association (VSA Thailand) is a non-profit (NPO)/non-government (NGO) / Peace organization collaborates on an international voluntary project for people of all ages, cultures, religious and economic
backgrounds. Our work is based on the belief that learning, sharing, and understanding can reduce any conflicts. We hope it can lead to the last goal that is PEACE. Volunteer Spirit Association (VSA Thailand) started the activity in 2008 as SAWASDEE Thailand (ST) and organized the first international workcamp in 2009. Now VSA is a full member of NVDA (Network Voluntary Development in Asia) and CCIVS (Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service), and still, keep promoting International Voluntary Service (IVS) in Thailand step by step.

Krabi, Ban Sapanpon School is a small school in Krabi province. It is the primary school where there are 60 -70 students who study in the school. Even though the school is located in Krabi where it is the tourist place, it is far from the destination; beach and the sea. Most local people don’t have a chance to learn about different culture and cannot speak English. It means the student in the school they don’t have the opportunity as well. This project is a good opportunity when the volunteer comes and shares the culture and language by doing an activity with a student in the school. The volunteer can motivate children to dare to speak English. Furthermore, the volunteer can teach them by your own language and learn the Thai Language. Learning and sharing the intercultural and language still are the main purpose. The volunteers can share and learn culture, language, and knowledge with the local community and children in school. Also, the volunteers will know more about Thailand during working in the local community.

In 2019, the project needs the volunteers, who are the most important of the part, to continue for developing the potential of a local community that the last volunteers did, to help children in school, and local community still practice the English language, to learn your own language, and to make them learn more about the different culture. Hopefully, the volunteer can motivate another student who lives around the village but studies another school where it is far away from the village to come back to study in this school. On the other hand, the volunteers also get the opportunity to know local food, local transportation, local occupation and local culture with living in local habitation in the communi ty. We believe that understanding several cultures can make the world be peaceful.

A propos du travail de volontaire

Volunteers are expected to work as English teachers in primary school. They can prepare their lesson by themselves, but the teacher at the school can give advice (do not expect this point too much even the teachers are also shy to speak out).

Creative teaching English – Creative teaching is important to recognize; teaching certificate does not need for specific quality of volunteer but creative is the one of yours. Aims of creative teaching are giving the chance for students  in the school or the place nearby have the opportunity to communicate with different language, touch difference culture,  and believing.

Teaching the English language by activity; using games, song, storytelling, art or performance to encourage them  to communicate in English. The volunteer should create the game and activity for a student who is 7- 18 years old. We  don’t expect the student can learn more about reading and writing, but we want the volunteer makes them dare to speak  English at the beginning.

Agriculture work – The volunteer can learn how to plant vegetables such as mushroom, morning glory, and  another local vegetable, etc. in the school.

A propos du logement sur place

The volunteer will stay with a local host family and the teacher’s house in the school.
 Nature environment, basic and simple.
 Mattress, pillow, and fan are provided.
 Thai toilet and bath.
 No food and drinks except water in the sleeping area for your care because some animals such
as the mouses, ants, will come to share your food.
 Please keep clean and tidy.
Volunteers expect to eat Thai food. A local host family will prepare the food for the volunteer.

A propos des activités de loisirs possibles

There are many beautiful tourist attractions in Krabi province. We would like to recommend the Emerald Pool, Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave Temple), and Ao Nang Beach.
The Emerald Pool – An Unseen Thailand in Krabi is a mineral pool in the forest.
Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave Temple) – It is one of the more interesting temple complexes in southern Thailand, as the monks live and worship within a maze of natural caves in an overgrown jungle valley.
Ao Nang Beach – The popular beautiful beach for tourist in Krabi

A propos du point de rencontre

There are 2 ways to get to Krabi province from Bangkok; plane and bus.
Plane – Krabi International Airport, the volunteer can take the plane from Bangkok to Krabi International Airport. The plane will take you to Krabi for approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Bus – Krabi Bus Terminal, the volunteer can take the bus from Bangkok Bus Terminal (Southern), Bangkok to Krabi Bus Terminal

There are 919 students that they can come and stay at the school from the primary (7 years old) to high school (18 years old). Everyone can study about each country, nationality, culture, etc. in the real situation. The volunteer can see how the difference between people even they live in the same city. Moreover, the volunteer will know more about Thailand during working in the local community.

The great volunteers came to give the opportunity for children and the local people in the community. Many local people can improve their English skills through a group by a group of volunteer, or at least they try to speak the English language more. They dare to face and work with the foreigner even though they cannot speak English. Moreover, the volunteers have changed the local community. They used to stay lively and trustily with the foreigner. Local people have a chance to learn, accept, and adopt the ways of life with the new cultures from the volunteers who are like an intercultural ambassador.

A propos du travail de volontaire

The volunteer is expected to work as an English teacher in primary and high school. You can prepare the easy English lesson and useful conversation, The volunteer should open the mind, share a new experience with the students, and use your own experience teaching and enjoying the game.
Creative teaching English – Teaching the English language by activity; using games, song, storytelling, art or performance to encourage them to communicate in English. The volunteer should create the game and activity for a studen twho is 7- 18 years old. We don’t expect the student can learn more about reading and writing. but we want the volunteer makes them dare to speak English at the beginning.
The activity after school – because the students stay at the school dormitory, they always have extra activities after school. The volunteer can join them to make a more closed relationship. It will be a good opportunity to exchange a different culture.

A propos du logement sur place

The volunteer will stay with a local host family. • Nature environment, basic and simple. • Mattress, pillow, and fan are provided. • Thai toilet and bath. • No food and drinks except water in the sleeping area for your care because some animals such as the mouses, ants, will come to share your food. • Please keep clean and tidy.

Exigences

Le volontaire devra emporter avec lui :
- Une tenue correcte pour l’école : les teeshirts doivent couvrir les épaules, pantalons pour les hommes et jupe jusqu’aux genoux pour les femmes. Attention, pas de chemisiers, de tops ou de shorts. Le volontaire doit respecter la culture locale, il n’est pas un touriste en vacances ;

A propos de l'organisation localeGive University Thai students have the big chance to communicate with the foreigner. Destroy shyness from them and let them use to the foreigner even now not only English is important to be in the world. Education camp is the most wanted from Thai people when thinking of cultural diversity. Thaksin University is a public university in Southern Thailand. It is in Muang Songkhla District, Songkhla Province. It is about twenty kilometers from Hat Yai District. Previously, Thaksin University was a branch campus of Srinakharinwirot University. Afterward, it grew and eventually became a separate university. Thaksin University was established as an independent public university on September 1, 1996.

Suvarnabhumi means "Golden Land" in the Buddhist scriptures referring to the kingdom of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand where they are various and abundant food and cultures.
Beginning of 2017, the collaboration of Suvarnabhumi project has been established starting from Cambodian Youth Action (CYA) and Volunteer Spirit Association (VSA Thailand) build up the Bridge of Suvarnabhumi voluntary project focusing on Education and Culture theme.

A propos du travail de volontaire

Education and Culture – The long history of Suvarnabhumi present valuable identities cultural which is the goal of the project. Learning long-lasting culture by non-formal education program in both countries.
The Suvarnabhumi project will implement the HAPPY Model
 Help, the volunteer’s main task is to run a project in support of the local community. Volunteers use their time, energy and competencies to help those most in need, while at the same time helping themselves to further develop personally and professionally.
 Absorb, the volunteering services will be done in a way to support the learning of the volunteers at a maximum in various personal and professional competencies. While the process will be supported by nature process on non-formal education tools (language learning, mentoring).

 Participate, apart from their regular projects (usually service oriented), the volunteers should be engaged in at least one other action or initiative as a manifestation of their active participation in the life of the local community. The hosting organization will support the volunteer in this aspect, selecting an action that fits both the needs of the community and the learning needs of the volunteer.
 Promote, the volunteers that do volunteering services in different places are perceived as ambassadors of global change. They are expected to promote both the idea of volunteering as an act of active citizenship and the idea of sustainable global development. This promotion should happen both within the local hosting and the local sending communities, which is why both the hosting and the sending organizations will be responsible to encourage and support the volunteer's efforts in this direction.

 Young, it will be taken into consideration from all the people involved in the service that it is a young initiative and it should be designed as one– fitting the interests and learning needs of the young people, being friendly and fun!

Volunteers are expected to work as English teachers in the primary school. They can prepare their lesson by themselves, but the teacher at the school can give the advice (do not expect this point too much even the teachers are also shy to speak out).
Creative teaching English – Creative teaching is important to recognize; teaching certificate does not need for specific quality of volunteer but creative is the one of yours. Aims of creative teaching are giving the chance for a student in the school and people in the village or the place nearby have the opportunity to communicate with different language, touch difference culture, and believing. Teaching Activity is that the volunteer would do the activities base on intercultural and language with the games, songs, storytellings, and dancings. Also, it should focus on communication; listening and speaking.
