A propos de l'organisation localeThe initiative for the creation of A&V is due to parents worried by the lack of structures for people with intellectual disabilities. A&V is an association of three homes and one day center welcoming people with a light to moderate intellectual disability. Located on the outskirts of Brussels, they offer a family life to people who are supervised by professionals and volunteers. During the day, the majority of interns work in sheltered workshops, others go to the day center. The A&V’s mission is to create, manage and run activities and places to live, and work to ensure a social integration of quality to people with intellectual disabilities

A propos du travail de volontaireTeams in the three houses collaborate regularly and integrate volunteers’ participation in their daily functioning in order to offer the residents a rich and wide social environment. The volunteer is entirely part of the team, and participates to every meeting with the only restriction of meetings under professional confidence. The volunteer will participate to the community life: during the evenings (4pm to 9.30pm), sometimes in the morning (6am to 8am), and some weekends (from Friday 3.30pm to Sunday 10pm), with a maximum of 35h/week. For the day center, the timetables are as following: Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm with a maximum of 35h/week. The exact timetable will be set with the volunteer in order to attend his needs and requests. It will also take into account the French lessons (for max. 5h/week). Each month, the exact daily planning will be delivered to the volunteers. In July, the homes are closed for three weeks. If the volunteer wants to, he can participate to the holidays organised by the association. The volunteer will have to respect the common rules: respect cleanness and tidiness of common places, respect resident’s sleep (no noise after 9pm), respect no-smoking places (inside the house), and accept not to drink alcohol inside the house in front of the residents (he will be given the house rules). He will always be accompanied by a responsible person during his work hours.

A propos du logement sur placeFood will be provided to the volunteer during his working hours. The rest of the time, he will have to cook for himself. The volunteer is asked to clean his room or apartment during his stay and when he leaves. Cleaning equipment and products are available. A key will be given to the volunteer, and must be returned when he leaves. If he loses it, we might have to change the locks.

Localisation du projetThe center is located at 3km of the city center of Braine-l’Alleud.  Braine-l’Alleud counts many stores and a train station. Brussels is 15 minutes away from Braine-l’Alleud by train.  A bus stop and a train station are located not far from the residential center. Bicycles are provided for the volunteers to go to the train station.  As far as leisure is concerned, Braine-l’Alleud is home to a cinema complex, many sports halls, and a cultural center.  Braine-l’Alleud is not far away from the historic site of Waterloo. Many hiking routes are available in the area.

ExigencesRenaissance wishes to welcome people having reached their legal majority who are (or are willing to be) aware of the cause of disabled people. The volunteers must have the maturity needed to face the challenges of daily life with physically disabled people. Prior knowledge of French is essential because some residents only speak French and need clear indications, in order to avoid misunderstandings that could frighten or upset them. Besides, the Renaissance residential center needs volunteers who are dynamic, motivated, keen to learn and to take initiatives, able to question themselves, and to accept remarks from the staff. They also need to be aware that they will live several months with different people who have a way of life which is sometimes totally opposed to our daily life. Volunteers have a place at the Renaissance residential center. The partner of the SVI will do everything to create a real exchange between them and the residents of the center.

Informations supplémentaires sur le projetThe stay must last from three months to maximum one year.

A propos de l'organisation locale

Renaissance ASBL is a residential center hosting 18 adults who were born with physical disabilities (cerebral palsy). The center aims at giving those people an adapted living place. Renaissance is a residential center in which each occupant has to take part in the daily tasks according to their abilities. These tasks are supervised by various specialized people: educators, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses, a caseworker and physiotherapists, a multidisciplinary team in which each person accompanies the resident individually within the group. Daily tasks at the center include:  Life at the center: cooking, food stocks control, laundry storage, cleaning of the kitchen.  Indoor activities: theatre, boccia (variation of bowls for disabled people), sports, painting, expression, media, comics, well-being.  Outdoor activities: swimming, hippotherapy, food shopping, cultural excursions.  Special events: Ren & Music (music festival), Ren & Bike (adapted bicycles), Ren’ART (painting exhibition), Christmas market.

A propos du travail de volontaire

During the project, the volunteer will take part in the community life of the residential center under the supervision of the staff members. They will accompany the residents during mealtimes and other moments of their life:  Life at the center: cooking, food stocks control, etc.  Leisure and creative activities: theatre, well-being, painting, expression, comics  Activities organized out of the center: shopping, cultural excursions, sports, etc The volunteers will also improve their French, organize some group activities and projects. The volunteers won’t be in charge of medical care (washing the residents, putting them to bed, waking them up, etc.).

A propos du logement sur place

The volunteers will be housed in separate rooms on the first floor of the center. These rooms include a television, access to WiFi, a private bathroom and toilet.

A propos de l'alimentation

Three meals a day will be provided to the volunteers. They will eat with the residents on the ground floor of the center or on the first floor (where they will be housed).

Localisation du projet

Ophain is near Braine L'alleud city, a Walloon municipality in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant, about 20 kilometers south of Brussels. The Braine-l'Alleud municipality includes the former municipalities of Braine-l'Alleud proper, Ophain-Bois-Seigneur-Isaac, and Lillois-Witterzée. It also includes the hamlet of Sart-Moulin, the inverted name of which inspired Hergé's Moulinsart castle. The famous Lion of Waterloo where the eponymous battle took place is in the territory of Braine-l'Alleud. Bordering Flanders, the town is home to a minority of Dutch-speakers.

A propos des activités de loisirs possible

Braine-l’Alleud counts many stores and a train station. Brussels is 15 minutes away from Braine-l’Alleud by train.  A bus stop and a train station are located not far from the residential center. A propos de l'organisation localeLe Fagotin is located in Stoumont, in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. It is a quiet village, surrounded by forests. It is the perfect place to go for a walk in the forest. It has already worked with volunteers. Each year, about fifteen interns come and help on the farm. The farm building belongs to the family. They make it available to the organization. It has bought another building in which work will be done. It will be converted into a residential center.

A propos du travail de volontaireVolunteers will decide, according to what they prefer to do, what they will do. They can either take part to the pedagogical project or work in the farm. Those who will work on the pedagogical project will supervise groups. Those who prefer manual work will work in the farm (feed animals, clean the barn') Volunteers must be aware that working in a farm can be very physical. It can be very tiring. Working with animals is a concrete job (feeding animals, cleaning the barn') and not a romantic one (a cow is not a nice stuffed animal). Volunteers will always be supervised, they will not be alone. They will help adults who work on the site. Workers will teach them how to do the different tasks. The aim is that they slowly become more and more independent. Work schedule will depend on the moments. The farm works 24h a day. At some moments, there will be work for more than 8 hours. In summer, there are sessions for children. During those sessions, children will have activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Walking in the forest, taking care of the animals, making bread'). After 4 p.m., it will be necessary to organize games, dinner, showers, night walks and breakfast. Children are between 3 and 15 years old (for those who do not stay there at night) and between 6 and 15 years old (for those who stay at night).

A propos du logement sur placevolunteers sleep in a tent during the summer. They must bring their tent, their mattress'. It is possible to sleep in a residential center, but it costs about 350 .

A propos de l'alimentation

Food is included.

Localisation du projet- Volunteers need to bring clothes to go outside. Clothes that can be dirtied and that are are necessary. It is important to bring boots or walking shoes, a rain jacket and sweaters (it can be really cold and/or rain much). - Computers, cameras' can be kept in a secured room in the main building. - Volunteers will have access to the internet. - It is an isolated village. It is the perfect place for those who like walking in the forest.

Descriptions:

Project NOW is a farm cooperative with social objectives. It was created by 10 people who were joined by 40 « villagers » from the municipality. The aim is to make Waulsort attractive for the tourists again, to exploit its potential in order to create jobs, support local producers and at the same time recreate proximity services.

On an ecological level, apart from the fact that all products are local, organic and seasonal, nothing is disposable in the Villa 1900, except toilet paper… We favour ecological and raw material.  All clothes and home textiles are second hand to not support unethical and non-environmental suppliers. The garden is not chemically treated and includes a few squares of grass. Native species are fostered: there are a lot of birds, fed during the winter. A pond helps to support biodiversity and hens to reduce waste. In the store, we aim at “zero waste”: we buy a lot of bulk products and favour re-usable packaging.

Our sustainable management tries to embed all aspects of a sustainable society: cooperative management, participatory democracy using collective intelligence, social justice and integrating differences (insertion of the long-term unemployed, collaboration with people who went through psychiatry, intercultural and intergenerational relations), attention to North –South and present-future balance, through the farm cooperative to favour  local exchanges and local resilience (alternative currency, SEL), individual development, promotion of permaculture and other agroecology types, promotion of soft mobility, reflection on other business and teaching models…

A propos du travail de volontaire

For 2016, the main tasks will be:

- helping in the restaurant and doing the dishes (evenings/week-ends)

- building work: stripping down, sanding, painting, bricking

- Garden maintenance

- Creation of a little garden of medicinal herbs like in the Middle-Age

- Plantation and « seeding » of the pond

- Workshops, participation to visits and activities

- Data-input work for the library and bookkeeping

- Harvesting fruits or wild plants

- Promotional actions for the Villa 1900

- Maybe (but we will discuss this in the next general meeting) participation to the implementation of an online sales system.

- Work on the internet and social networks.

- Establishment and delivery of a local newspaper

- Creation of handcrafts

- Delivery in the village

- Bike-taxi for some events

- Cycling ice-cream delivery

- On Monday, receipt of the goods

- Repairing for the free repairing workshop (Repair café)

- Eventually: cooking

A propos du logement sur place

Housing in Villa 1900’s « Pink Room » with a sink (hot and cold water), a desk, a closet (the bathroom is under work, it will be ready for the second semester).

Stay in an exceptional surrounding, in the middle of unspoilt nature with rich biodiversity and in an area with a huge historical legacy. We have a washer and a drier that you could use with no hesitation.

A propos de l'alimentation

You will be fed during your stay, with the team. You shouldn’t be accustomed to eat at regular mealtimes ;-)  If you are vegetarian, there is no problem. We have difficulty with “vegan” diet, but it can be possible (In this case, you have things to teach to us, we have special goods here, but no soya for example, as a matter of principle)

Localisation du projet

The village of Waulsort was part of The Benedictine Waulsort Abbey built in 946 by Scottish monks. The Abbey, « monasterium perigrinorum », associated with the priory of Hastière, has been achieving prosperity as shown by conventual buildings which, secularized by the French Revolution, represent the current castle of Waulsort.

A propos des activités de loisirs possible

o Numerous meetings; contacts with a large business, social, and transitional network.

o Visits and tests a tour partners producers for those interested. (Our first volunteer visited organic chicken/pork farm, participated to several guided tours, made some cheese, worked with our forest ranger, discussed with a permaculture farmer, helped our greengrocer).

o Professional reward possible

o Option to follow Namur’s university courses.

o A bus and electric bikes down the street.

o Unlimited access to our library.

A propos de l'organisation localeBrussels International Fantastic Film Festival is a 12 days film festival. 2000 artists and professional are invited to share their passion and experience about cinema in a fantastic atmosphere. More than anything, it is a unique concept. It is one of the most important festivals for genre films in the world. It welcomes more than 60 000 spectators every year. More than 100 films from many different countries are shown. The festival is composed of international films competitions, competitions of face and body paintings, many creative workshops and master classes, a special day dedicated to Japan Animation, a Zombie Parade, and many more crazy events! The line-up is more international than ever, however we dedicate a special part of our program to home-grown Belgian artists.

A propos du travail de volontaireVolunteers will be part of the local team composed of more than 100 volunteers. They will have to be ready to work at least 5 hours every day. Tasks will be clarified continuously during the festival but volunteers will mainly work with the public: ticket control, public circulation, general informationÂ… Volunteers might also have to do some physical work before and after the festival. The job will be more or less the same throughout the whole festival, you have to be aware that it could be repetitive. Volunteers will have to work during the whole festival, from the beginning to the end. They will have to be present 2 days BEFORE. If you plan it in advance, you will be allowed to take 3 days break maximum. During their free time, you will be free to go to the festival and enjoy the films and events (projections start at 3:00 PM and end at 1:00 AM).

A propos du logement sur placeForeign volunteers will be welcomed by local volunteers already implied in the Festival since many years. You will be hosted in 'couchsurfing' conditions in order to facilitate the intercultural exchanges, to create new friendships and to spread the motivation among the participants! All the hosts will be located in Brussels itself. You need to bring a sleeping bag and you should not expect luxury conditions! You will be in contact with your host only one week before the beginning of the festival. The organisation will give volunteers sandwiches, drink tickets and food tickets during the festival. The equivalent of only one meal will be provided every day. There are a lot of shops, small snacks (pizza, fries, sandwich, ChineseÂ…) and bars in Brussels. → You NEED TO HAVE A SMALL BUGDET FOR OTHERS MEALS (about 8€/day)

Localisation du projetThe workcamp will be located in the Palais des Beaux-Arts and the Cinematek of Brussels (Belgium), in the very center of the city. After the work, you will be able to enjoy the films and events. The entry will be offered as well as your meals and your pass. Members of SVI will be here to provide further information on the cultural sites and events in the region. There are several opportunities of sports and outdoor activities.

A propos de l'organisation localeL’Inc’Rock BW Festival was born in the municipality of Incourt in 2005. This festival has grown over the years and there are more and more people who come. It has gained fame and this is an advantage. It is an event you cannot miss in Wallonia since it gives a hint of what summer festivals will be ! It is organized around three days. Those will be three days of music on three stages (one outside) with more than 40 concerts, animations, and a great atmosphere. There will be rock, urban, hip hop and French music as well as new groups. Moreover, it will give a predominant place to Wallonia and Brussels artists. World-famous artists will also perform. In addition, a firework show, a VIP area and a camping site will be organized.

A propos du travail de volontaireWith more than 10,000 people in three days, the area of the festival is very dirty. So, three days before the festival starts, volunteers are going to help install stand, tables, barriers, and so on. During the festival, volunteers could enjoy the festival and could be behind the bar and serve beers or food. You could also be in front of the stage to secure the area. After the festival, you will clean the area and help uninstall the area. You will collect and recycle the waste to give a nice and safe ground to the festival-goers. You will discover various sides of the organization of a festival. The volunteers are young people (18-35 years old) who want to work OUTSIDE and live in a VERY BASIC CAMPING. You have to be flexible and enthusiastic. You CANNOT have any physical condition. And most important, you must love music!

A propos du logement sur placeA camping site is reserved for the volunteers. It is well located. There are showers and toilets. You need a flashlight, toilet paper, bath towel, basic pharmacy, ear plugs… You can expect not to have hot water to shower. You need to bring all the things that might be useful because you will not be able to buy anything during your stay over there!! You must think about bringing material to fix your tent in case it breaks. You must absolutely bring everything you need. If you do not have all the needed material, you might end up sleeping outside in the mud. All meals are included.

Localisation du projetMeeting point : Midi (South or Zuid) train station

ExigencesParticipation fees are free, what they pay is for their sending organization. In Belgium, you just need to have a small budget for your free time. You need a health insurance to cover your entire trip to Belgium (however usually the host has an insurance to cover your working time). Your sending association may help you find a suitable one. No vaccine is required but if you are going to do some physical work, we recommend that you take the vaccines against lockjaw and hepatitis. Make sure that you have seen a dentist before you leave home. Volunteers must bring all the medicines you need. It might be complicated to buy them in Belgium if you do not have the necessary documents to get it. The medicine you need might have a different name from the one it has in your country. In cases of accident all participants from foreign countries are insured by the International Volunteering Service. Nevertheless they need to have their insurance and a health insurance. European volunteers need their European Health Insurance Card up to date. You can get it for free!

A propos de l'organisation locale

L’Inc’Rock BW Festival was born in the municipality of Incourt in 2005.

Check the website for the news :  http://www.incrock.be/

A propos du travail de volontaire

With more than 10,000 people in three days, the area of the festival is very dirty.

A propos du logement sur place

A camping site is reserved for the volunteers.

A propos de l'alimentation

All meals are included.

Exigences

Boots or walking shoes (you might prefer not to take too nice shoes because you might get VERY dirty).  Don’t forget, everything will take place outside.

Working clothes (for the construction work), and comfortable clothes (for the festival). Summer clothes AND winter clothes because it can get really warm or really cold or very rainy or all of them together!! Volunteers need to bring clothes that dry really really fast because if you get wet, you might have to change clothes various time a day. If you think about bringing clothes that dry fast, you will not end up with only wet clothes left.

If you are sensitive to noise, you can bring earplugs. They might be really useful because it gets very noisy during the festival. Working with a headache is not really nice and sleeping in the noise either!

A propos du point de rencontre

Midi (South or Zuid) train station

A propos de l'organisation localeThe little village of Han-sur-Lesse at the gateway to the Ardennes and one hour by road from Brussels is home to one of the most famous caves on our continent, the Cave of Han. The Cave of Han, which is exceptional in terms of the beauty of its concretions and the immensity of its chambers and fashioned by the river Lesse that flows through it from one side to the other, has welcomed almost 20 million visitors for over 250 years. It well deserves its three stars in the Michelin Green Guide. On foot or on the Safari train, venture into this 250 hectare haven of peace. Experience a trip through time by discovering many species that live or used to live in our region. All these animals are living in their natural environment. The Reserve is the only one in Belgium that has the European 'Big Five': the wolf, the bear, the lynx, the European bison and the wolverine. The Reserve also has breathtaking panoramas and very special flora.

A propos du travail de volontaireTo watch over the path, while walking and observing the visitors in order to guide and help them. ï‚· To prevent the visitors from leaving the path and venturing in other parts of the Reserve (there is a danger due to wild animals). ï‚· To ensure that the visitors do not damage equipment or harm the animals and that they do not adopt dangerous behaviors (like to pass their hand through the enclosures), as well as that they do not disturb the path (noises, garbage, etc.). ï‚· To be in charge of activities and give information along the path: to inform the visitors on practical questions (distances, timetable of the safari-bus, localization of the toilets, rain shelters etc.) and to provide further information concerning the animals and the nature to the visitors who wish it (a basic training in that field will be given to the volunteer at his/her arrival). ï‚· To ensure the maintenance of the path: every evening, to empty the garbage cans and the dry toilets; to collect waste; to ensure some maintenance work (ex : painting of furniture) ï‚· Certain days, to organize the picking-up of the visitors by the safari-bus at the end of the path (while being in contact with the central service and the drivers of the safari-bus by phone). ï‚· When there are less visitor the volunteer can carry out other tasks from time to time, for example some maintenance work in the Reserve or to create pedagogic tools. ï‚· Occasionally, participating in the preparation and animation of different events which take place in the Domain

A propos du logement sur placeThe volunteer will be hosted in a touristic inn just in front of the caves reception. You will share a 4 or 6 beds bedroom with all the facilities.

A propos de l'alimentation

All the meals of the volunteers will be provided, you will eat at the inn restaurant for breakfast and dinner and you will eat in the domain for the lunch.

Exigences

It is compulsory to have a good level in French. The volunteers needs to understand and to be understood by people on the walking route to answer their questions and to guide them. It is also welcomed to know other languages such as English, German or Dutch.

Volunteer profile : • To like animating people, want to speak with other people, being outgoing and able to provide information. • To be able to show authority towards the visitors when necessary. • To love nature and animals, as well as walking and being outside.

A propos de l'organisation locale

It has been a long time since Couleur Café piled up its souks, restaurants, and musicians in the covered market of Schaerbeek, in Brussels, that now became a European cultural centre. In 1990, first edition of Couleur Café, the idea was to have a mixed-raced and friendly festival. Something that would not be big and gloomy. Something like the multicoloured social fabric of Brussels. The program back then was mainly with African and Afro-Cuban music. First success with 5,300 visitors.

Couleur Café already had the perfect ingredients: souks, decoration, restaurants, craftsmen, fanfares… even if it was way more modest of course. With the success, the festival became bigger, moved, took on new music and became interested in urban music. Couleur Café wants the program to be eclectic, welcomes discoveries and Belgian music, even if its black roots are still as important. Over the years, the festive side of the festival and the multidisciplinary dimension were strengthened, with for example the Cool Art Café exhibition (with fine art) and the increase of extra-musical activities: dance lessons, free style demonstration, NGO’s invitation in the Solidarity Village

At Tour & Taxis since 1994, a wonderful industrial location in the hearth of Brussels, Couleur Café is not only a world music festival anymore but a festival with all urban music. With more than 50 concerts in three days, Couleur Café offers three stages with lots of different music: r&b, hiphop, funk, afro, reggae, raga, dub, dancehall, latin, salsa, blues and rock. There are also spaces for electronic music with that same desire of melting-pot.

Although Couleur Café gathers more than 75,000 visitors, including 3,000 campers, it keeps a human face. It is managed self-sufficiently by Zig Zag, a non-profit-making organization. The festival became a must-see Belgian musical event that still encourages the fun and friendliness 24 years after its creation.

A propos du travail de volontaireDuring the day (you can work during the morning or the afternoon): distribution of documents to explain to the residents around Tour & Taxis about the event.  Put some gates around a part of the area (manual work, so we need strong people  Checking tickets and bags

A propos de l'organisation localeDour Festival is a four-day music festival. 200 artists perform on four stages. More than anything, it is a unique concept and a wonderful atmosphere.More than 1.000 journalists came to the festival. These professionals are generally from Europe. Last year we noted the presence of journalists from Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Luxemburg, Poland, Reunion Island and the USA. The line-up is more international than ever, however we dedicate a large part of our program to home-grown Belgian artists.
