A propos de l'organisation localeBrussels Games Festival is dedicated to games in all their forms and, especially to make people sensitive to game play for all the citizens regardless of age, sex, social status or origin. This is a festive event but it is also civic and educational. Brussels Games festival enhances the social, human and relational dimension. Festival is nonstop 32-hour festival, including an 'IN' programme during the daytime and an 'OFF' one during the night. All types of games will be there, reflecting the great diversity of current playing creation: communication games, party games, family games, strategy and management gaming, games from the world, full-size playground, Mölkky championship, meetings with games editors and designersÂ… There will be something for any taste and any generation.

A propos du travail de volontaireBeside the dates of the festival, volunteers may have to collect material, store, assemble and disassemble facilities, give back material and prepare the stands. During the festival, volunteers will be in charge of welcoming people, catering, entertainment for game activities, or inform visitors about the festivalà… depending on their skills.

A propos du logement sur placeVolunteers will stay with local volunteers or Belgian families as couch surfers. A sleeping bag is requested. You must have pocket money to eat in the evening (around 5/8€). Organizers will provide a meal every 6 hours of working as well as drink for hydration. Your managers will make sure to balance your schedule in order to breathe and enjoy the festival.

A propos de l'organisation locale

L’Arche is a non-profit organization originally based on Christian values and established in 1973 in Belgium by Jean Vanier, a philosophy teacher, and André Roberti, a Jesuit. They wanted to offer people suffering from intellectual disabilities, generally being in psychiatric hospitals, a place where human dignity is respected.

L’Arche is an international federation of people with and without disabilities who live and work together in the daily centre and in the houses. The mission of L’Arche is to provide disabled people with quality integration and develop their human skills. The originality of these small houses is based on a family-like atmosphere where disabled people, professionals and volunteers from all origins, social, cultural and philosophical backgrounds, ages and beliefs encounter one another. In addition to this house’s life, some of the disabled people are going to the day centre where activities, such as craftwork, occupational therapies or services to the larger society, are offered.

The mission of L’Arche is to welcome adults with disabilities. You will realize that disabled people are not only patients, and volunteers are not only caretakers. In L'Arche, what is vital is to aim for a mutual relationship.

A propos du travail de volontaire

We could summarize your roles in L'Arche as such: you are a "friend", but not only. By also having a role of authority, you have a supporting/teaching or ‘educational’ role; therefore, you are "a listener" too.
As part of a team, the volunteer shares his responsibility by:
• supporting disabled people in different activities (work, recreation, health, hygiene…) inside and outside the day-care centre;
• cooperating in the daily functioning between the houses and the day-care centre by accompanying the people with disabilities from their houses to their workplace, having fun and celebrating together, for instance;
• Assisting the training related to disabilities, accompaniment (how to cope with violence, affections, feelings, authority, interdependence between different status, etc.).

A propos du logement sur place

The volunteers are hosted at the “volunteers’ house”. The volunteers share the common facilities, like the kitchen, dining room and the bathroom, but they have a private room. Sometimes volunteers from other hosting organizations also stay in this house.

A propos de l'alimentation

Every working day, the volunteer eats a warm meal together with disabled people.

Informations supplémentaires sur le projet

Volunteers will receive pocket money and french lessons.

Every month, a general allowance and a food allowance are given to the volunteer who is working in the day centre.

Drapeau de BelgiqueBelgique: PROJET NOW

Code de projet: BE-SVI-B-SVI_PROJET_NOW
Type de projet: Projet agricole,Projet de construction,Projet educatif,Projet environnemental,Travail manuel,Projet de renovation
Documents du projet: Projet Now_EN.pdf ; SVI_Belgium_for_volunteers.pdf ;
Descriptions:

Project NOW is a farm cooperative with social objectives. It was created by 10 people who were joined by 40 « villagers » from the municipality. The aim is to make Waulsort attractive for the tourists again, to exploit its potential in order to create jobs, support local producers and at the same time recreate proximity services.

On an ecological level, apart from the fact that all products are local, organic and seasonal, nothing is disposable in the Villa 1900, except toilet paper… We favour ecological and raw material.  All clothes and home textiles are second hand to not support unethical and non-environmental suppliers. The garden is not chemically treated and includes a few squares of grass. Native species are fostered: there are a lot of birds, fed during the winter. A pond helps to support biodiversity and hens to reduce waste. In the store, we aim at “zero waste”: we buy a lot of bulk products and favour re-usable packaging.

Our sustainable management tries to embed all aspects of a sustainable society: cooperative management, participatory democracy using collective intelligence, social justice and integrating differences (insertion of the long-term unemployed, collaboration with people who went through psychiatry, intercultural and intergenerational relations), attention to North –South and present-future balance, through the farm cooperative to favour  local exchanges and local resilience (alternative currency, SEL), individual development, promotion of permaculture and other agroecology types, promotion of soft mobility, reflection on other business and teaching models…

A propos du travail de volontaire

For 2016, the main tasks will be:

- helping in the restaurant and doing the dishes (evenings/week-ends)

- building work: stripping down, sanding, painting, bricking

- Garden maintenance

- Creation of a little garden of medicinal herbs like in the Middle-Age

- Plantation and « seeding » of the pond

- Workshops, participation to visits and activities

- Data-input work for the library and bookkeeping

- Harvesting fruits or wild plants

- Promotional actions for the Villa 1900

- Maybe (but we will discuss this in the next general meeting) participation to the implementation of an online sales system.

- Work on the internet and social networks.

- Establishment and delivery of a local newspaper

- Creation of handcrafts

- Delivery in the village

- Bike-taxi for some events

- Cycling ice-cream delivery

- On Monday, receipt of the goods

- Repairing for the free repairing workshop (Repair café)

- Eventually: cooking

A propos du logement sur place

Housing in Villa 1900’s « Pink Room » with a sink (hot and cold water), a desk, a closet (the bathroom is under work, it will be ready for the second semester).

Stay in an exceptional surrounding, in the middle of unspoilt nature with rich biodiversity and in an area with a huge historical legacy. We have a washer and a drier that you could use with no hesitation.

A propos de l'alimentation

You will be fed during your stay, with the team. You shouldn’t be accustomed to eat at regular mealtimes ;-)  If you are vegetarian, there is no problem. We have difficulty with “vegan” diet, but it can be possible (In this case, you have things to teach to us, we have special goods here, but no soya for example, as a matter of principle)

Localisation du projet

The village of Waulsort was part of The Benedictine Waulsort Abbey built in 946 by Scottish monks. The Abbey, « monasterium perigrinorum », associated with the priory of Hastière, has been achieving prosperity as shown by conventual buildings which, secularized by the French Revolution, represent the current castle of Waulsort.

A propos des activités de loisirs possible

o Numerous meetings; contacts with a large business, social, and transitional network.

o Visits and tests a tour partners producers for those interested. (Our first volunteer visited organic chicken/pork farm, participated to several guided tours, made some cheese, worked with our forest ranger, discussed with a permaculture farmer, helped our greengrocer).

o Professional reward possible

o Option to follow Namur’s university courses.

o A bus and electric bikes down the street.

o Unlimited access to our library.

A propos de l'organisation localeLe Fagotin is located in Stoumont, in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. It is a quiet village, surrounded by forests. It is the perfect place to go for a walk in the forest. It has already worked with volunteers. Each year, about fifteen interns come and help on the farm. The farm building belongs to the family. They make it available to the organization. It has bought another building in which work will be done. It will be converted into a residential center.

A propos du travail de volontaireVolunteers will decide, according to what they prefer to do, what they will do. They can either take part to the pedagogical project or work in the farm. Those who will work on the pedagogical project will supervise groups. Those who prefer manual work will work in the farm (feed animals, clean the barn') Volunteers must be aware that working in a farm can be very physical. It can be very tiring. Working with animals is a concrete job (feeding animals, cleaning the barn') and not a romantic one (a cow is not a nice stuffed animal). Volunteers will always be supervised, they will not be alone. They will help adults who work on the site. Workers will teach them how to do the different tasks. The aim is that they slowly become more and more independent. Work schedule will depend on the moments. The farm works 24h a day. At some moments, there will be work for more than 8 hours. In summer, there are sessions for children. During those sessions, children will have activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Walking in the forest, taking care of the animals, making bread'). After 4 p.m., it will be necessary to organize games, dinner, showers, night walks and breakfast. Children are between 3 and 15 years old (for those who do not stay there at night) and between 6 and 15 years old (for those who stay at night).

A propos du logement sur placeIn 2014, volunteers must sleep in a tent during the summer. They must bring their tent, their mattress'. It is possible to sleep in a residential center, but it costs about 350 . Food is included

Localisation du projetVolunteers need to bring clothes to go outside. Clothes that can be dirtied and that are are necessary. It is important to bring boots or walking shoes, a rain jacket and sweaters (it can be really cold and/or rain much). - Computers, cameras' can be kept in a secured room in the main building. - Volunteers will have access to the internet. - It is an isolated village. It is the perfect place for those who like walking in the forest.

ExigencesConditions: - A certificate of good conduct - It is very important to like contact with handicapped people or with people living in a difficult situation. - It is important to be fond of animals or living outside - It is very important to like organizing games and activities with children - Volunteers must have been vaccinated against tetanus. - Volunteers need not to be allergic to milk, flour, dust or animals. - It is important to speak a little bit of French - Work can be really physical - If volunteers want to visit the region, they will be able to take the bus and the train.

A propos de l'organisation localeThe initiative for the creation of A&V is due to parents worried by the lack of structures for people with intellectual disabilities. A&V is an association of three homes and one day center welcoming people with a light to moderate intellectual disability. Located on the outskirts of Brussels, they offer a family life to people who are supervised by professionals and volunteers. During the day, the majority of interns work in sheltered workshops, others go to the day center. The A&V’s mission is to create, manage and run activities and places to live, and work to ensure a social integration of quality to people with intellectual disabilities

A propos du travail de volontaireTeams in the three houses collaborate regularly and integrate volunteers’ participation in their daily functioning in order to offer the residents a rich and wide social environment. The volunteer is entirely part of the team, and participates to every meeting with the only restriction of meetings under professional confidence. The volunteer will participate to the community life: during the evenings (4pm to 9.30pm), sometimes in the morning (6am to 8am), and some weekends (from Friday 3.30pm to Sunday 10pm), with a maximum of 35h/week. For the day center, the timetables are as following: Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm with a maximum of 35h/week. The exact timetable will be set with the volunteer in order to attend his needs and requests. It will also take into account the French lessons (for max. 5h/week). Each month, the exact daily planning will be delivered to the volunteers. In July, the homes are closed for three weeks. If the volunteer wants to, he can participate to the holidays organised by the association. The volunteer will have to respect the common rules: respect cleanness and tidiness of common places, respect resident’s sleep (no noise after 9pm), respect no-smoking places (inside the house), and accept not to drink alcohol inside the house in front of the residents (he will be given the house rules). He will always be accompanied by a responsible person during his work hours.

A propos du logement sur placeFood will be provided to the volunteer during his working hours. The rest of the time, he will have to cook for himself. The volunteer is asked to clean his room or apartment during his stay and when he leaves. Cleaning equipment and products are available. A key will be given to the volunteer, and must be returned when he leaves. If he loses it, we might have to change the locks.

Localisation du projetThe center is located at 3km of the city center of Braine-l’Alleud.  Braine-l’Alleud counts many stores and a train station. Brussels is 15 minutes away from Braine-l’Alleud by train.  A bus stop and a train station are located not far from the residential center. Bicycles are provided for the volunteers to go to the train station.  As far as leisure is concerned, Braine-l’Alleud is home to a cinema complex, many sports halls, and a cultural center.  Braine-l’Alleud is not far away from the historic site of Waterloo. Many hiking routes are available in the area.

ExigencesRenaissance wishes to welcome people having reached their legal majority who are (or are willing to be) aware of the cause of disabled people. The volunteers must have the maturity needed to face the challenges of daily life with physically disabled people. Prior knowledge of French is essential because some residents only speak French and need clear indications, in order to avoid misunderstandings that could frighten or upset them. Besides, the Renaissance residential center needs volunteers who are dynamic, motivated, keen to learn and to take initiatives, able to question themselves, and to accept remarks from the staff. They also need to be aware that they will live several months with different people who have a way of life which is sometimes totally opposed to our daily life. Volunteers have a place at the Renaissance residential center. The partner of the SVI will do everything to create a real exchange between them and the residents of the center.

Informations supplémentaires sur le projetThe stay must last from three months to maximum one year.

A propos du logement sur placevolunteers sleep in a tent during the summer. They must bring their tent, their mattress'. It is possible to sleep in a residential center, but it costs about 350 .
