About the local hosting organizationServe the City started in 2005 in Brussels as a movement of volunteers supporting local charities and people in need through simple social activities such as food and clothes distribution to the homeless. Serve the City Belgium is now the Belgian branch of the international volunteering network Serve the City International. Serve the City Belgium currently manages and operates 17 volunteering projects in the city of Brussels, some of them in collaboration with other non-gouvermental organisations such as the Red Cross and the Samusocial. These projects are aimed at providing social services to various vulnerable groups such as the homeless, the elderly, persons with disabilities, refugees and asylum seekers, children in need, and victims of abuse. Concretely, our projects involve several activities that range from food distribution to the homeless, to study support for orphan children, to cultural exchange activities for refugees and asylum seekers. The mission of Serve the City Belgium is to promote volunteering and to raise awareness about the impact of volunteering in local communities. Our ambition is everyone volunteering, and by drawing on our values, our ultimate goal is to promote social cohesion. We encourage people to "cross the line" between the rich and the poor, between the included and excluded, and to get involved in a transformational, meaninful experience whilst supporting the most vulnerable in our society.

Presentation of the programmeJoin Serve the City Belgium (STC) as a Volunteer Ambassador and help promote volunteering and active citizenship! STC is a global volunteering movement creating meaningful opportunities to support local communities and encourage social engagement. As a Volunteer Ambassador, you will play an important role in our work by helping to create content for different platforms about the benefits of volunteering, local and international volunteering opportunities, and programmes such as the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). We are especially looking for someone with a stronger journalistic focus, interested in writing articles, supporting emails and press communication, and helping share inspiring stories about volunteering and community impact. You will also participate in a variety of volunteering projects and help promote volunteering at internal and external events such as student fairs, conferences, and community activities.

Local accommodationSTC will support the volunteer in finding an accommodation in Brussels, and transferred monthly the budget for lodging to the volunteer. Volunteers will manage their food with the money allocated in the programme. STC will cover the costs of transport. Volunteers will receive a MOBIB card loaded with a public transport tickets for the duration of their stay. The card can be used for both volunteering and private private travel.

RequirementsThe Participant profile: We are looking for a highly motivated young person that would like to learn how we can make a difference in our local communities through volunteering. Ideally, this person will be values-driven, solution-oriented, open-minded, autonomous and with a good level of French or Dutch. We would love to have the support of someone that enjoys leadership as much as teamwork, and that defines themselves as a hands-on person, wishing to learn about the situation on the ground. Although not a compulsory requirement, it will be convenient if the participant has a driving license valid in Belgium.
Deadline: 31/05/2026 12:00

Extra info about the projectThe project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
